I am pretty decent at SEO and some basic HTML stuff, but I am by no means a programmer. I thought that this would best go in this forum but if it needs to be moved, then please one of the mods, please do so. I use Hittail tracking code on a few of my sites and it recreates the searches that my visitors do to find me. Today someone hit one of my websites by typing in this: http://127.0.0.1:4664/redir?url=htt...&src=8&schema=2&s=0DvT13OsXe1aOZvmbBtpEgfwubc This looks to me like someone is trying to redirect my website to somewhere else. Does anyone have any ideas as to why someone would do this and how? I couldn't get this to be recreated with any search engine so someone had to know what they were doing typing this into their browser or wherever. If anyone can find out who this is that has tried to do this to my site, and what this redirect is doing, I'll send some money your way. Thanks!
127.0.0.1 is a local IP (not online), you shouldn't worry about it. It is something done locally, maybe you have a script running in the background or something. Peace,
Thanks for the reply. Not really sure how there could be a script running in the background. Can you clarify this for me? I have had the Hiitail tracking stuff on about 400 pages of my different sites and I have never seen this before. This site in question hasn't even been updated in a couple of months. Can you explain what a local IP is? Really appreciate the input.
Whoever visited your site using that link probably uses Google Desktop, since that seems to be the major application which makes use of port 4664 and has a built-in HTTP server, hence the 127.0.0.1 in the URL.
Cool! Thanks for all of the info guys. I have never used Google Desktop and the info you just provided me is very helpful indeed. Man, how do you guys learn so much of this stuff? hehehe
