OK at least I know what I'm gonna use for competition research!

OK, I'm a LinkAssistant user, and just now I got this announcement from the developers telling me they've got a new free tool for offsite analysis and competition research.

Here's a quote form the message (I hope you can read through the marketese):

"SEO SpyGlass is an extremely powerful competition research tool
designed to let you see exactly how your competitors got to the top
in search engines -- so you can mimic their winning linking strategy,
improve on it, and blow right by them in Google, Yahoo! and MSN!

And, best of all, you can download and use SEO SpyGlass absolutely
    free of charge!"

Hmm... Let's see. I downloaded SEO SpyGlass, and gave it a whirl. They also got a flash video on the homepage with a live demonstration of the features (didn't have the time to watch it yet.)

So after testing this tool for like half an hour I must say this looks like a killer app, with lots of backlink analysis power -- and yes, it really is free.

Here's how it works: It first gathers all the backlinks of your competitor (pretty fast, too) and then lets you analyze them using the reports. backlinks, anchor texts, site-wide links, outbound links, link value, domain age, DMOZ, Yahoo! -- it's all there!

In like 20 minutes, I figured out that two of my best-ranking competitors for one of my keywords are using tons of paid links from high PR webpages, and another two are using doorways to spam search engines. Now we're getting somewhere, I knew there was something fishy about these two sites all along!

OK, will post more later, just though I'll let you guys know about this new tool.

Oh yeah, the homepage is right here: http://www.link-assistant.com/seo-spyglass/

Sadly it's only a trial version software which expires in 15 days.

No man, SEO SpyGlass is totally free. LinkAssistant is try-before-buy stuff, it does expire after 15 days.

    You're welcome!

After a couple of days of using, it seems like although it's beta software (I guess the developers must be into the "release often, release early" stuff), but it's already VERY complete and polished.

I'm looking forward to more search engines, though. The video on the homepage promises "around 50 new search engines, including regional ones" in the next version.

    Cool, can't wait!

ok .. tested for a few hours ... seems not to bad at all!!! It is fairly quick compared to other similar products I have. Definitely does capture a little more info.

HOWEVER ... there is no functionality to SAVE your projects and you get a little message saying ... "You can not save your project with this version" which leads me to believe there is a more comprehensive version coming or available.

OTHER THAN THAT ... pretty decent!

Yeah, we figured this out in this other thread. I also received another email that says "we're already working on the enhanced new version of SEO SpyGlass".

So yes, there seems to be a new version in the works.
