There was recently some oil spills in my region.

How do they happen and why so often? The oil is abord the top of the ship, or what? What causes the oil to just spill out.

A rupture in the hull underwater, usually. Hitting something, being hit by something. Metal fatique. Lots of reasons I suppose.

There was an oil spill off the coast of where i live a few years ago. It spilled nearly 100,000 gallons into the water. Alot of talk has been going on about enforcing oil tankers to have a double hull so this happens less often. But most still have single hulls because its cheaper, go figure.
