    Hi Rezo,

Please -carefully- read what I am writing above, as well as in the item description of my auction, as I'm not trying to fake (or scam) anyone.

I'm clearly writing that oil.com is an internationalised domain name, which happens to look like exactly like oil.com.

No offense, but if you don't know what an idn is, it is not my fault...

SUMMARY OF THE ACTUAL PM I'VE SENT TO ahkip A FEW MINUTES AGO:

ahkip, with all respect, could you please edit your post? You are trashing my *sale* thread! If you want you can keep all your comments except the one that you're saying that "this domain is useless and that's why noone bid on it". This is your opinion, which I respect (so don't bid), but let others decide on their own!
I repeat, this is a sales thread and not a thread for regular domain name discussion debating idn domains. So, I kindly ask you to show some professionalism and edit your post.
As for the board, my thread is in the appropriate one, since "domains" board is a sub-category of "buy-sell-trade".

    Thanks.

P.S. If you want you can pm me to discuss-debate it further or you can start a new thread regarding idn domains.

Also, your post has been reported to DP mods.

so if I am understanding this thing correctly, you are actually selling the word oil in another language as a .com domain that shows up/translates as oil.com with this plugin, yes? If so, what language? Or do i have this wrong?

What language is the puny code in? Many of you posting are rather clueless about IDN's and I suggest you start reading up on them before commenting further.

if you have start you post as xn--il-ibc.com(oil.com), i would not put any comment.

The reason i post is that there are many ppl have no idea what IDN is, and end up paying money for something for thing that they didn't bid for.

The only purpose of my post is to protect my fellow DP user and also your name. If the sales turn out ugly, you reputation will be hurt and that's not what you wanted, right?

BTW, thx for call me fat boy, i am currently on a hard diet to kick off some weigt, and that shout gave me lotz of motivation - 50 push up for that..

I nearly wet myself when I saw oil.com in the thread title.

And yes, my ignorance of IDN is glaring.

How on earth will the browsers know if I type in http://www.oil.com/ if I want http://www.oil.com or http://www.xn--il-ibc.com?

Obviously they have it sussed but I suspect it will depend on the language settings of my browser. I couldn't, quickly, find an explanation. Can you help me out?

Broke-r - what language does that translate from? What unicode letters? Is that the right way of asking about the IDN system?

That's really, really important information to have upfront in a sale like this.

I may be happy that I can't see it if my target market is in the country where the domain will be valuable. broke-r hasn't given us the information to allow an informed decision.

Perhaps broke-r is inexperienced at pitches because this domain is awesome - you just need to understand how to use it. As it stands it comes across as a scam. Shame.

Yes this is the correct question.

Also the way this works is that people in other countries that do not speak english have keyboards with characters from their own language.

    Example: http://www.sussex.ac.uk/its/facilities/pc/keyboards.shtml

Now let's say a person in their native tongue wanted to visit a site with one of these special characters that's not in English...previously they couldn't! Before the introduction of IDN names only English character domains were registerable. IDN's use PUNY code which some browsers (Opera) understand. Firefox has a plugin for IDN's and the big news is that IE7 will have native support for them.

The big question when looking at IDN names is what language is it from. Also in that language does the word translate well. Say it's using a swedish character...if no one in sweden is going to type oil.com then the name won't do very well.

IDN's present a giant opportunity for domainers.

Anyways...if you found my post helpful and informative I would appreciate some green rep. :)
