    Hi

I am interested in this domain name ohs.net, which for me stands for "occupational health and safety". It'd be of interest to me to develop this domain into a quality information-rich portal in this field, monetized by Adsense, as I am studying to become a OHS professional. My main source of income have been the online projects I developed so far for my hobbies and it'd be really great if I could continue this way.
I spoke on the phone with the owners some time ago and they ask $12,000 for it. I just got an email announcing 15% off, which is $10,200.

I wonder if this domain is really worth this [huge] amount of money and if it'd be an investment I should consider...? What would represent a decent offer to the owners for this domain...? I am a limited resources guy, with enthusiasm and knowledge, ambitious, but with little money to invest right now...
Are there any financing programs available to web entrepreneurs? Or is there someone I could associated/join forces with?

Many thanks for reading this message. I know it's more than strictly domain appraisal, it's more like a request of counseling or help.

This is a great domain, definately worth the money if you plan on developing. This domain is a goldmine for what you're planning to do. Im my opnion, the long term benefits is mind blowing. Go for it.

Although it's got all premium letters, personally I would think it's a bit much for it

If it's a name you've got to have then get it. but don't get caught up in it just because it's a 3 letter.

OHS could just as easily stand for

    Oklahoma Highway System
    Okinawa Henati Stories
    Osama Has Syphilllis

To me it looks like the 15% offer is still about twice as much as it should be.

yeah, or like "Oral Health Supervisor"...

thanks for the replies... at least I know where we should stand, even if I won't get the owner to sell the domain at a normal price.

A moment of truth (or anger).

I just posted this in another thread:

Indeed, with those thousands of dollars I could create a magnificent website, instead of just buying the stupid domain name. People impressed by it will make the effort of remembering whatever name given and the success will come.

Look Domains have their place and there is certainly a place for higher priced domains if the price is warranted.
The cold hard facts are that the average web user uses the search bar over the address bar, and many of them go to sites everyday whos domain they don't even take the time to look at, they just click on the link because the description fits.
If you have some offline marketing to do, or are buying a name for your company or want something that will stand out, then you should purchase what you think will fit into, or compliment your plan.
For the site you are going to build, I would rather have the .org, if the .com was not available.
That being said, if all of your marketing is to be online, I believe a 3 character, (The appropriate one) gives off an impression of stability or reliability to the average web surfer.
They don't think like us. In their eyes, if it's "safety.com" it must be the "real" or "official" site.

If 2 burger places had the same menu, and one was "Chesse Burger Cafe" and the other offered better prices and decor, and was named "Squishychz", which one would you walk into first?

    Thanks guys.

One more thing: do you think that domain name prices are going up > I mean if an year from now this domain will still be available, will I still be able to negotiate with the owner in the same terms? (or maybe even better).

Good domains are increasing in value all of the time as they are becoming more and more rare. I would say that the price you have been offered is about twice the amount a domain reseller would pay but then he/she would be wanting to profit from it.
You have shown your eager need for this domain and have made it a question of supply and demand.
However, it probably wasn't the brightest thing to publicly post about your need for the domain and post the domain all over the Internet ... you have considerably reduced your probability of getting it cheaper!

Excuse my frankness, but, "HELL NO!"
Last year premium domains increased in value by 94%.
The game is all but over. It has been going on for 15 years.
If you are going to invest in one, now is the time.
    Buyers are not waiting.

This is not a wait around and wait and see industry, if you play that game, you will never be in position to realize any good opportunities.

I do not know any holders of premium domains that do not get their price. It may be today, or it may be next month, but the online real estate market moves very fast.
    You snooze, you loose.

I get people all the time that come back a month or 2 later and ask about something that was posted, or listed somewhere, and 80% of the time, it is gone.
If it's worth $2k today, it will never be that price again.

you might try to get in contact with the actual domain owner (and not the intermediary sale broker). I think there is a ton of flexibility on domain prices...remember, I am pretty sure the domain brokers go for commission whereas the actual owner might be desperate to sell

edit: I could be wrong and it may be hard to get the contact info. but I have gotten these 15% off offers and suspect that that 15% could easily become 50%

I think its too high. There has to be some other verison of letters or words that are still available for sell. what about a .org or .info?

If you still want the name offer $5000. Hope that they would come back to you with $7500 or something like that.

    Good luck!

Okay a 3 letter.net even premium letters too high.. I mean you have 3 letter.com's that you can get for under 10k. I doubt next year you will still get it for under 10k but for now you can get some for under 10k although some are going for 100k
