Ok so i added my debit card to the account.
Then i upgraded to a premier account.
I diddnt see anything about extra charges - so I went ahead. But now im worried - will paypal do anything to my bank account, take out money etc?

There aren't any fees for having or upgrading an account. You only pay their commission when you receive money. If you are only receiving money from other people, and you aren't buying things, then they would never have any need to touch your bank account.

Just make sure you click 'more funding options' and then select your debit card when you go to pay for something.

Otherwise I believe they try to make it default to an instant bank account payment.

Oh yeah, of course, I read your post wrong (skimmed).

If you have a PayPal balance, you can still use that.

You should try reading the terms of the things you sign up for. Especially if you're giving them your bank account and credit card information.

I have heard horror stories about Paypal going into bank accounts and grabbing money for grey market transactions that are deemed so months after they occur.

I have personally had some bad run in's with Paypal over the years but they are still the biggest, cheapest and easiest to use but as Rob said make sure you know about all the fine print or you might be in for a rude awakening.

I have done close to 500 transactions through Paypal and only had problems with a handful. The place Paypal is still problematic is when it comes to chargebacks from stolen accounts, especially involving virtual transactions

    Jg,

I had a friend that had that happen. They kept taking money out of her bank account. If you don't have a bank account attached to your paypal account, don't leave a great balance. They'll drain that baby dry.

People can complain 3 months later and paypal takes your money. Or one person I knew got money from a transaction, it was a stolen credit card, paypal should have verified it first, didn't, then took her money away.

I would love to just go off about how terrible paypal is but needless to say call their CS # and see if they can help you. Usually they can not. The one thing I hate about Paypal is that anyone can do a charge back with aCC after a prucahse is made adn then paypal holds on your account for atleast amonth before figuring out what to do and almost always looses the charge back cases and it really hurts businesses.

For as much as people complain about PayPal, it is still the easiest, most popular and reliable way to send money via the internet (especially to other countries). Although they are not a bank, I trust my money in PayPal's hands much more than a money wire with no guarantee or security at all.
