When I promoted the site dedicated to designer clothing I used all main social networks (Facebook, Twitter and so on) and created profiles in different social networks. For example I went to Ning and searched for all social networks for keywords like "fashion" and "designer clothing".

if you have much time and energy to do that.. yes its better.
do sbm to all your link of your website that you want to increase the page rank, traffic, and google indexed.
