Hi guys, Wondering as most people are a one man band and jack of all trades when it comes to marketing your website. How important do you consider off site marketing (meaning actually outside world advertising and marketing). Has anyone noticed that marketing in magazines, flyers, television etc. has helped them out. Also, guessing this would be kind of black hat tactics, and as the saying goes bad publicity is still good publicity. But has anyone create controversy to get their name out in the news broadcast land (tv, newspaper, magizines)?
I think it really depends of the nature of your website. If you are selling a product or a service, and that your customer base is local, then offline marketing can work very well. For instance, we have a web hosting operation in China, and we get many conversions from the ads in local newspapers.
I value it high for my website, but it depends on your market. It's about whether they are the kind of people who will see an advert, remember it, go home, log on, and type in your address / retain an advert and go to it when at home OR whether your market is only capable of clicking a link online and being taken to your site there and then.
Hmm it depends. I cant flyer 10,000 households for around $190 (note that this seems high if you're in the USA as I'm in England using the ££ and the dollar is weak - perhaps consider $140 in your head instead). If you had 10,000 clicks at $0.05, that would be: $500 At $190 for 10,000 flyers, 10,000 clicks would have to be priced at $0.019 a click! I know this doesn't take into account cost of designing and handing them out, but you could do them yourselves if you wish. If you live in an area that doesn't get too many flyers, then it could prove pretty effective.
