Energy Independence has to be one of the country's single most important goals. We will never get anywhere when partisan politics is allowed to override common sense. Especially when the best answer is often somewhere in the middle. Drilling for oil will help slow down the flow of money to other countries and provide jobs. What more reasons do you need? Why can't we drill for oil and develop other solutions all at the same time. A decision that should take 1 day to pass through congress will probably take 2 years. We have an abundance of natural gas, and we have the resources to become world leaders in wind, solar, and biomass energy. Unfortunately our politicians are too busy playing the blame game, and our workers are too busy funding other countries by borrowing money to buy cheap crap they don't need.

Well, we need both a short-term and long-term solution to this gas crisis.

They already pay 37.9%. Is that not enough?

How much do you pay? If you are in the bottom third, you pay ZERO. The bottom half only pays 50% Is that what you call fair?

Of course it does you twit. You're not in that tax bracket.

Once pizzaman actually owns a pizzeria instead of just working for one, he will find out just what the reality is.

Personally I think everyone should pay a flat 10% no matter what they earn with no deductions, or move to a completely consumer based consumption tax with no income tax at all.

How dare those mean nasty rich people steal all their own money and keep it...

To be fair the 'rich' do have loopholes which equates them paying far less than the top tax bracket calls for. Hell even with my business, I am extremely conservative on taking deductions. I however still know realistically the deductions make it look like I made less = I pay much less taxes than the percentage based as the law calls for compared to that of a normal family working in a factory with no real deductions or loop holes to use.

95% of the people are not in that bracket.
now the question is if you are in that bracket. lol. if not and you are expressing an opinion that is against your own benefit and majority of the people, then you are a tool.

The top 1% earn 22% of the income BUT pay 40% of the total income taxes
The bottom 50% only pay 3% of total income taxes.

Yet the bottom 50% continue to complain and blame everybody but themselves for their financial problems.

Gee when you put it like that...

Its pretty obvious who is NOT paying their fair share. The only equal tax system is to charge everyone the same RATE, PERIOD!!!

There's no shame in delivering pizzas.. Hell, Tom Monaghan built a pizza empire with $75 and $500 in borrowed money. Anything is possible.

We need to get past this class envy and jealousy that is causing people to think that those that make it big have some how stole their way there.

It's life liberty and the pursuit of happiness; pursuit not right.

Once you learn that, you will be well on your way!

You're right pissaboy. My wife thinks I'm a GREAT BIG TOOL. I guess I should just listen to her more often.

I'm wondering why you need to know about this. Are you from San Francisco?

Nah pissaboy, that's what she told you so you'd leave me alone!

That's the worse thing about democrats, they can't keep their hands out of my pocket. You are the perfect example. Get your ass to work so you can earn you own money instead of whining cause I won't give you mine.

I have high income and don't mind paying a higher rate.

W/ High income I have enuff to put away money. I also went thru low money and no money periods. Here are two interesting items:

    1. Warren Buffett has spent years decrying the tax code. He finds it unbelievable his effective tax rate is lower than that of his secretary. Talk about a rich guy.

    2. In trying to ascertain just how large the $700 billion bailout is....an article compared it to a number of govt and then private items.

Rediculously more than the NASA or National Health Institute Budgets; larger but similarly sized to the defense budget.....and less than 1/2 the size of the total net worth of the so called wealthiest Americans from Forbes list....who have a net worth (per Forbes magazine) of in excess of $1.5 trillion. Just 400 folks. Astounding.

Mia doesn't want to be taxed extra. I don't mind it if I'm making good money. Its all opinions. There is no absolute right or wrong.
