    Social Bookmarking is the best way to gain a good amount of traffic for short time. Blog Comments and Articles can give you some regular traffic. Also forum posting is good thing if you are reputed member of a high traffic forum.

    Blog commenting, blog reviews, etc. where other blogs link to you is supposedly very good for offpage SEO purposes. There is also social bookmarking, directory submissions, rss submissions which are quite good for seo reasons.

    Why dont you put your blog in your signature? That is a form of offpage seo too.
    I'm currently using comments to get backlinks, from Hubpages and blogs. The links from Hubpages appear in my webmaster report within a month. Some blog comments never show at all.
