I have a web design setup and would like to target some local clients. Surprisingly, many in the metropolitan area do not have websites, and the ones that do have really crummy ones. Main target - Businesses without websites that can benefit from having one. Secondary target - Businesses with websites that can benefit from having a better one. Where and how should I invest $500? I've considered Direct Mail as an option - *4 Pages in an envelope, handwritten addresses, first class postage stamp Page 1 & 2 - 2 Page Letter >Introduction of company >Give industry statistics >Show benefits of having a website >Give an offer of a free domain name registration to find businesses interested in websites >Set the CTA for them to call in Page 3 - FAQ Sheet Page 4 - Free Domain Name Registration Offer Page I just have a few questions before firing the gun on this. -Do any of you have experience with this kind of marketing? -Is there anything I should include/remove? -Should I call businesses -before/after sending letters? -Is direct mail the best option? -What other offers would be enticing enough to get a customer to respond? -What services should I focus on selling? -Should I go with new business listings filed in the county, or go with yellowpages (perhaps the companies that buy large Ad space)? *Any other advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I know that geo-targeted PPC/adwords works well for people. Make sure your ads only run in your city. This SHOULD get you some results.

Go visit a printers and have them print 'we build great websites' and your web address on them. Go visit local business personally & leave the interested people a pen, & your idea of course. Everyone likes a nice pen, leaves a great impression and promo will last the whole year until the pen runs out.
Pull some kind of publicity stunt and people will notice you. Just make sure it's the right kind of publicity stunt where the right people notice you (area small business owners).
Nice, my area is the same way in regards to having low quality to no website capabilities whatsoever. Good idea!
