maybe a promotion with a brick and mortar store?

Yes. I do some direct mailing, but like a post I just made in another area about PPC...it's not a matter of what kind of advertisng you do, it is how well you advertise. Almost any form of advertising can be lucrative if you know what you are doing. Here is an article I wrote a couple of months ago about Direct Mailing.

Jim is correct in his assesment of this. I also run ads in local papers and it works well, but only because the ads are designed well and give them a reason to want to go the website. Here is an article that has a few good ideas that might help you: http://website-promotion.mcdar.net/34277.php There are many ways to advertise offline or on. Just do it well.

    Good Luck

One thing I do, typically those online free business card services email me (some spam, some repeat work). Well at times they offer free business cards, only pay s&h ( a few bucks). I'll put together an advertisement card about a site. With these cards, I would keep them in my pocket places I go, and where ever able, I'll leave a few here and there. Cork boards in businesses, card drop off at restaurants, information counters at malls.

Don't know if it really helps, but for 10 bucks I usually can get 250-500 cards, not bad I'm guessing. Any feedback anyone?

With the shift in advertising budgets moving online there are some good deals to be had/negotiated with print adverts in magazines etc.

I am a supporter of offline ads and find them quite effective. Of course, they've got a disadvantage, that is their local character, however, as they still contribute to site's traffic they're worth spent resources. Concerning the type of such a promotion technique, I'd say I prefer to place ads where "crowds pass by" to media commercials.

I personally have read about pull advertising with a wiered but reported affective buzz creator which consist of leaving simple post it notes with a thought generating phrase and your website url. Its has said to work but I have yet to try it.
