At last you people acknowledged that I am a Male, For those curious, I am from India and in an Indian forum that post would have meant a death trap. Really moderators at DP are moderates Abhilash.
The PR on my site at http://sheet-music.8k.com went up, but since then, the traffic from MSN and Yahoo has gone down. Traffic from Google stayed the same, which was almost non existent before the PR went up. I did expect to see an increase in traffic once Google put the PR up (a few days ago), but so far, no change. I have Adsense text ads on all the pages, and hopefully MSN and Yahoo does not penelize my site for this. Any comments? cheers dave
There will definately be some more heads to chop, and some more people to win traffic. Matt Cutts has already stated that there will be more rolling micro updates to come. Hexed
Well, indirectly it can have a bit to do with traffic. But (one more time!), an update of Toolbar PR only reflects changes that have already been made within Google's index and search results. When Toolbar PR updates, nothing else will change as a result of that update.
Correct. Think of PR as Public Relations, nothing more =) Let's admit it. If you are searching for something and see a website that is PR7, most likely as an SEO it will tweak your interest and you'll surf around a bit. More and more Joe Public's are installing the Google toolbar also now, and they are starting to take note of the green eye candy. Hexed
OK, I don't get it. Months before this current update, I started publishing articles and posting new content on my site(www.bestofthehome.com) daily using incoming RSS feeds, have outgoing RSS feeds, xml sitemaps, quality links, the whole smear....and my index page went from 5>4. I know that isnt much but I was hoping, like everyone else, that they would go up. Do not see much change if any in traffic and no change that I can detect in SERP's. What does it take to move up in PR these days? Don't know what else to do to make it happen.
You have to remember that PR is not solely a function of what you are doing but also a function of what other sites are doing, especially those that link to you. Most of the factors you mention other than "quality links" aren't directly related to PR, and by the same token PR isn't related that strongly to traffic or search ranking. The other thing to remember is that changes in Toolbar PR reflect changes that have already occurred in Google indexing since the last public (toolbar) PR update, so there's really no reason to expect anything to change as a result of the PR update. Remember also that there are indications that what you are seeing at this point is only phase 1 of a 2 or 3 phase update, so it may still change over the next couple of weeks. There are other threads about this here at DP.
I agree.. PR is only a sign and has nothing to do with traffic, it only shows you how many backlinks you have and how important they are... You might have a lot of important backlinks and no traffic from them at all
I'm still confused.... what you a are saying that PR will not affect SERP at all? if there are 2 exactly the same sites - will it be possible for them to have different PR? i guess yes, but if so - what will determine the order is whcich they will appear on the serp? not teh PR of the sites?
Yes two identical sites can have different pr, because PR is totally dependant on incoming links. As for the order, well if they are identical one or both of them will be put in the supplemental results because of the duplicate content penalty filter, and the other or neither will be ranked first. If that doesn't happen though, which ever one has the stronger and more relevant linking would be listed first. So while it is likely to be the same site that has the higher PR, it didn't get ranked first because of PR, PR just measures the reason it got ranked first. Confusing enough?
