Since there are members who believe that Google is broken, why not a separate thread for it? :D

Post your "Google is Broken" claims, suspicions, etc. here.

Google is broken by us SEOers. We cracked the code literally.

I dont know if SEOers break anything - it isnt like we are optimizing a site for unrelated terms. If a company has the money to shell out for selling their product- they belong there- its a different form of advertising in my opinion.

I only dropped a statement in here. I actually think myself they have a hard time coping with internet growth, coping with spam and coping with the balancing act of keeping end users happy as well as investors. Especially the very last bit will affect them most.

What does surprise me is how long it takes (or better, the inability) from MS and Y's parts to grab this excellent opportunity and launch something at least similar if not better. How long can it take? I thought in a fast moving world and cut throat hyper competition industry of internet business, I really thought an ill animal would be eaten by its eagerly awaiting predators within months. But no such thing.

And judging by their share price, us webmasters and the searching public are the only ones who think they are doing a crap job (or at least worse than before).

Maybe we have too high expectations.

Yes, it is really surprising that MSN and Yahoo have not capitalized on this. As a matter of fact, some argue that MSN and Yahoo are more broken than G :)

I've seen plenty of 'normal' people (SEOers aren't? :d ) moaning about SERs quality. And looking at referrer stats, it happens quite often people dig down to the 3d page to find our site (yes I know, we should be 1st page).

With 154 posts, you don't seem to have picked up an awful lot. No offense of course.

There are a number of threads about how Google is reporting things differently then a few months ago. Backlinks don't show, site: command performing weird, ranking seemingly random etc. etc. There is also an article about how G's database might be full and thus chucking out existing pages when a new page is indexed. Most of us can tell you an unexplainable situation where Google seems to be the culprit. Hence a lot of us thinking it is 'broken'.

Well, the most obvious thing that is broken IMHO is toolbar PR. Hasn't been updated for ages.

:D Thanks for the offer but no thanks. I earn thousands already from the revenue share...

Yes this forum is for asking and for answering as well. So there was my answer. Keep asking though, if I was disappointed and wouldn't find it interesting, I wouldn't answer. I was just surprised, that's all.

I feel most of the 'broken' parts are on purpose - those are all tools desingned for the SEO's
The results are still good for most things I have searched for. Our sites are not #1 for everything we want them to be.

Even if on purpose, it's still broken. If you have a PR indicator, let it be a real one. Otherwise, don't have one. Same for backlinks.

It may not be broen but G Y M simply are no longer good enough.

Seen mentioned that refs come from page 3 and beyond ... well what's on page one directory type entries - which don't answer the search question.

"villa rental asturia" (North spain - not too many tourists yet)
the results are simply crap ... there are 100's of pages not optimized and not very well linked but exactly what one looks for...

Finding such gems now takes copernic pro intensive search ...

No wonder ad budgets and ad income go through the roof.....

Y is working on better rss feeds - now a choice of 150000 there maybe an answer there.....

Personally, I have mixed opinions on this (Of recent anyway)... It may or not be, but as long as it produces relevant results, that's fine by me...

Oh, and as long as all my sites come up #1 too ;)

    No NO NO!!!!!!!!!

    Toolbar is not broken...

I'm sick of people saying that it is!

You have to realize we use the word broken in a bit of a synical way. A metaphor perhaps. It works for most part of it but it just doesn't work like before.

So no, the toolbar isn't broken as in useless / doesn't work. But the PR part of it isn't accurate to say the least. The PR part is only a fraction of its functionaliy so it isn't broken at all.
