Ok I'm starting this thread for arcade site owners. I'll try to keep it alive and full of tips and discussions...so let me start it off first

What kind of owner are you:
A.) One or two big sites
    B.) Multiple mini sites

Personally I'm A.) I find it a lot easier to focus on a small selection and build it up.

Also is your site just a cookie cutter, or are you really into looking different among the rest?? I have a mascot and nice logo for my two.

I have 1 big site and 2 mini sites that I am building up. Good idea though, since the proxy owners have their own thread as well.

I might get into this niche.

    How do you promote?

Is it easy to get returning traffic?

    What is the profit like?

I have one big site, http://www.gamestergames.com . Getting just over 1,000 uniques a day and its been up a month. I'm planning on adding a forum soon.
Heres a tip. To get a lot of traffic (I'm not getting a ton because none of the games Ive made for it have done THAT well), sponsor a flash game (or make your own). I actually make flash games, put my sites logo in them and send them out. For every ten views the game gets (on other sites), we get one page view. It actually works out really well, especially if the game does very well (I've only put out 2 games so far. Neither are doing THAT great, but I'm releasing my third game for the site tonight)

    I am both A and B.

I have one large site and several mini sites.

I'm always interested in tips on promotion of arcade sites.

My best tip: rank well in Google :D

According to analytics the total visits for my arcade/mini sites was 2700 yesterday. Most of those visits came from ranking well in Google.

I promote by using arcadebanner exchanges like playbanners.com, trading traffic with friend sites, and talking some in gaming forums.

Returning traffic is easy if you dont scare the user away. Dont blind them with 1000 blinking ads

Profit is great if you have a good network...google adsense bites for arcades, don't use them. I suggest valueclickmedia. I'm expecting a little over $200 for this month :)

I don't know why, but adsense isn't doing that bad for my game site. Its getting on average around $2.30 per 1000 impressions. It gets an insanely high click rate (about 15%).
EDIT: if you're not lying in your sig and really are getting $6-$10 per CPM, maybe $2.30 CPM is not that great :p

Adsense is doing fine for mine also, I have a steady CPM of $4. I seem to get around .20-.30 cents a click too.

I guess it just depends on the quality of your traffic, and placement.

Seeing as it is two years old, I would expect your arcade to have far more active users. Is it safe to assume that you didn't market the website much?
