Office Depot Adsense Ad

It's 4am right now, and I'm seeing a 468x90 image ad for Office Depot.

I know it's an Adsense ad because I see "Ads by Google" at the bottom of the ad.

What gives? My site doesn't have anything to do with office stuff. It's a sports site.

That can't be a public service ad, right?

I highly doubt it - why not contact Adsense about it and tell them that its displaying irrelevant ads?

Not a PSA... I hate Office Depot. Would've taken down my Adsense ads, LOL.

Sometimes this happens, like during tax season. Can't think of why it would be showing on a sports related site...

I also get Circuit City ads once in a while as well.

I like to believe that my site is optimized pretty well because 95% of the time, relevant ads are being displayed.

I wonder if these big companies advertise on all sites because they know that everyone is interested in something in their stores.

It could simply be a site-targeted ad, then it doesn't have to have anything to do with your content ;)

do yourself a favor and email adsense support, tell 'em to turn off all site-targeted ads for your account.

Give us an example of the page? What kind of keywords are you targetting? Try contacting google support, or just blacklist em'.

Yeah, that can and will happen sometimes. Most of the ads will be targeted to the theme of your site, but not all of them. The non-targeted ad will probably not stay up too long; I think those are on a rotation or something. Those kinds usually go away when I refresh the page.

Yeah, unless Office Depot put sports as one of their keywords... My cousin puts random keywords in when she throws an ad up. I think it's a waste of money, but whatever floats her boat.
