Offer people something and get good backlinks

I just saw a lot of people here trying to get hundreds of links on directories etc. Believe me I've been there and done that, it makes no difference to PR or SEO. Instead, look for good relevant sites with good rankings and traffic. Offer them links on your sites (3 way links if possible) or offer them an article in exchange for a backlink...maybe even 2 or 3 articles! Get 1 relevant link that's of high quality rather than 100 rubbish ones. If its a hard link to obtain...it's probably worth while :)

Thats good advice and does sometimes work. I offered a related site to mine an article, he published it with a link back to my site. What did he get out of it? Fresh content that he couldnt be bothered to write ot go out and get.

Content is a good one. It's good for me because I can link them to all the freelance work I do and charge for. They are getting content I charge for, for nothing. The thing is though, I tend to trade links more often than a link for content. Most people that are knowledgable about their niche could probably throw in their personal experience into their writing, so they prefer to write themselves. Freelancers on here like web designers etc could offer something though!

How about organizing a blog writing contest for bloggers and have to link to your website? If you offer a nice prize I think you might also get a good number of backlinks.

Great advice! I have noticed that guest posting can increase one's site traffic tremendously. This is my newest method for generating more traffic to my site.

blog commenting. But you can't be spammy. find high PR blogs, and start commenting on them. do not try to put an anchor-text link in the body of your comment. comment smart. try to engage the blog owner in a conversation in the comments. If you can do that, not only are you getting backlinks from a high PR site, you might also get the opportunity to swap posts (you post on his blog, s/he posts on your blog). But you have to go into it with the mindset that "its all about the conversation. the links and rankings will come with good conversations".

That is a nice way to obtain backlinks but all the more difficult too.

Yeah, might seem difficult. But think about this; what value do you really obtain from 1,000 spun articles? I'd rather have 1 x PR backlink. I've connected with a few webmasters, got around 20 manual links to one of my sites and got top 10 for around 4 key phrases in a few months. They are not huge phrases, but my site ranks for most articles I put up now (if search volume is between 1,000-5,000 I'm usually top10) which is good enough for me :)

I don't know if you guys can afford to give everyone a unique article for a link unless it's a spun article and if that is the case I don't think there will be a lot of people who will accept to give you a link for it, an Indexed link from my money site is worth way more than a spun rubbish!

I think it's good method but the incentive must be better than just an article.

I don't mind giving an article for a link. I wrote one the other day. I'd probably have charged like $15. The person I swapped with got a good article, I got a good back link. If you don't put the time and effort into SEO then you are not going to make it work in opinion.

I'm trying to swap my writing for banner design on my barter forum if anyone is interested.
