    Nowadays, article directory submission is losing its importance because all the major directories are hit by Panda algorithm...However many of them are recovering.

    As far as web directory submission is concerned, submission to premium directories is just as beneficial as it once was...

    My advice based on my own experience is to find keywords with low competition & a decent search volume in your niche and create content optimized for those keywords. As far as backlinking, the #1 method that's working now is building your own private network of relevant high pr sites or buying links from relevant high pr sites..
