On page is the tweaks done to the website to optimise it so that it should rank above competing sites on a like for like basis.

This involves optimising keyword prominence in the title, description and keywords meta tags, the H1, H2, H3 heading tags, optimising the keyword density in the body text to be around 3% and using bold and italic to highlight the keyword in the body text.

Additional considerations are the name of the filenames for the page and images in the document and the ALT text of images - include your keywords where possibly but never falsely identify an image.

Also never try spamming techniques in on-page SEO - for example using black text on a black background and repeating your keywords could damage your rankings in the search results.

Off page optimisation involves building links to your site from related website using SEO content. The anchor text used will influence how your website ranks for particular keywords.

It is also worth noting that one high quality link from an external site could be worth a hundred links from a low quality link farm.

    1) On-page optimisation (on-page SEO) is what can be done on the pages of a website to maximise its performance in the search engines for target keywords related to the on-page content.

2)Off-page optimisation (off-page SEO) is what can be done off the pages of a website to maximise its performance in the search engines for target keywords related to the on-page content and keywords in off-page direct-links.

On-Page means changes which we made 0on our webpages while optimizing the site. It includes meta tags, title, image optimization, url optimization, keyword proximity and prominence, heading tags and many more.
Off-Page means building links for the site to gain popularity and pagerank. It involves link building via directory submission, blog participation, forum posting and many more.
