hi as most people are aware google only seems to show a % of incoming backlinks to your site - SE's such as all the web and yahoo (for me at least) seem to show more - however none show all links - this has left me wondering about a couple of things 1) is there a rough figure of the percent of links shown by SE's as compared to the amount of actual links? (or is it unquantifiable?) obviously everyones backlinks are different, but i was wondering if the might be some approximate /averaged value: for instance - i shuld have about 100 backlinks -for me- google shows about 30 (30%) and yahoo/alltheweb show about 50 (50%) 2) considering at most (for me), any Search engine only shows half of my backlinks - is there any way to tell how many of the pages with backlinks to my site have been indexed by any particular search engine? - i suppose i could do a search for my domain name- but this isn't very effective as the domain name only really shows up in the code - which doesn't get displayed by SE's - is there any good way of finding this out?
I just tend to look at the yahoo figure as it seems more accurate than Google, and, if it keeps going up as I gather new links, then I am happy.
I think Google is **intentionally** screwing up the results of the link: command for some reason. In the past it used to display the higher PR ones, but now there are just no rules! I have a PR6 link that i am really proud of (only 2 other outbound links), and it doesn's show, and i have a PR0 page having 150 other outbound links, and it shows in the link: command. There is no way google thinks the PR0 link is more important than the PR6 one! They are intentionally screwing it up!
I have no idea how many backlinks I have, but Yahoo shows 5000+ and google only 850+. (yahoo link: 2,600 and linkdomain: 5,700) So the google numbers are WAY below the real number of actual backlinks in my case.
Google DOES show pr0 links! I'd assume it shows less than 1/3rd of my actual backlinks, of course there is no way I can tell exactly.
OK - so all the sudden I see all of the talk about PR numbers - where does this come from? Is there a way to find out the PR of a given web page?
Google shows approximately 20% of my actual link counts, averaged over 20 domains, compared to link counts displayed by AllTheWeb and AltaVista.
to just highlight my second question - is there anyway to tell how many pages containing links to your site have been indexed in google? (or any other SE for that matter) - if SE's indexed the code (and allowed you to search it) i suppose you could search for your URL - but they don't so you can't.
You can use this search, www.your domain.com -site:www.your domain.com. That finds all the occurrence that Google has indexed of sites containing your URL and eliminates the page in your own site.
I guess not otherwise it would be PRR. Google shows 17 backlinks to www.nadmedia.net when there are actually about 1,400 on google. To check for your own site, first use the google tool to see what their interpretation is, then search for anchor text used with link partners. I type in "nadmedia" to find out what my actuall BW is. It is about 95% accurate. This method is used on all major search engines and it seems to be better than their prefabbed systems. When you need a job done right, "Do It Yourself" Googles algo: PR(A) = (1-d) + d (PR(T1) /C(T1) + ... + PR(Tn) /C(Tn) ) Is it the piece of pie you think you are eating? You have to be careful of what you put into your mouths these days! Rob NADmedia
I am finding the best place to search for backlinks the MSN beta search. It displays many more than any of the other sites. The spiders are also finding new IBLs a lot quicker than Google or Yahoo. Use the following in the search input field : link:http://www.your-site.com Code (markup):
I think it's important not to be too focused on making back links, as you can easily shoot yourself in the foot if it doesn't appear natural.
In this situation, Yahoo is always more reliable than Google. And I recently noticed that Yahoo provides a much better and detailed search results page as compared to Google. So Yahoo it is.
