I know you were being sarcastic fryman, but I don't care, I am proud. That's an increase of 23,070 listings in one month. Many more were actually added, but that number is off-set by the sites that are removed for quality control. :)

Currently active editor accounts: 7,614
Number of editor accounts approved since the foundation of ODP: 72,077
New editors: 360
Reinstated editors: 333
Accounts inactivated for a variety of reasons (inactivity, resignation, removal): 676

Ratio of present number of editors/ all editors joined= 7614 / 72077 = 10.6%

Net number of editors= 360+333-676= 17

Net number of editors not including previous editors= 360-677= -317

Great result.

It is a reversal of previous trends where on average there was a net loss of about 70 a month. So yep, it is actually a great result. I'm impressed, hope it keeps going that way. :)

Still no Robozilla run so the dead links are increasing. Expect to see a big downward bump anytime soon. From the previous runs and the time since the last one I would say listed sites are overstated by circa 40,000 at the moment.

To be absolutely honest I would rather see no net growth in sites until there is clear and consistent growth in editor numbers so the resources match the maintenance overheads. So in my mind the lower level of net sites added in March is actually a positive as it suggests more editor time was spent on quality control.

Overall a small step forward. Unreserved well done!

I think those 17 new editors were all gworld, though.

Well the actual statistics were 28 new gworld accounts, 4 removed, 7 resigned, net gain of 17. Estimates vary but common belief is that gworld currently operates 12% of active editor accounts of which approximately 50% support changes to Adult listings, 40% oppose change, and 10% cast their votes at random. Unsubstantiated rumour and speculation also has it that gworld is in fact an Admin who trolls external forums trapping disloyal editors by manipulating them into agreeing with him. To further this disguise an unnamed spokesman at a Burger King in Reno, Nevada, has alleged that gworld and one of his alter egos disguised as a random DMOZ "loyalist" regularly battle it out in DP going as far as red-repping each other. ;)

You know I still find that report bland to the point of boring. What was the biggest achievement of March? The removal of pedophile supporters sites and the introduction of new rulings to prevent it happening again. Now that was good news. No mention. Next, reversal, hopefully not temporary, in the downward trend of editor numbers. Where was the fanfare? Just the bare stats. How did it happen or was it an accident? What were the changes in guidelines that affect submitters? When the good news happens it wouldn't do any harm to shout it a bit louder! ;)

Shame to hear about Zeal - what about some active recruitment of the redundant editors?

Don't you think DMOZ already has more than enough redundant editors? Perhaps going after non-redundant editors would be a better idea...

The foregoing is not aimed at brizzie, annie, vulcano, and the other good editors - the rest of you: well, you know who you are

There was indeed ODP recruitment of Zeal editors on the Zeal forums after its demise was announced, but it was probably unnecessary. Zealots were already saying they would apply to other directories, mainly the ODP. We did gain an extra few editors in March from the fall of Zeal. Bear in mind though that some Zealots were also ODP editors already.
