Odd Situation

Has anyone ever had a site that took months to be picked up by google? I set up a site in early Dec 2004, received DMOZ and yahoo dir listings in early Jan 2005 and googlebot has never been by. The mozilla user agent bot was by a few times but as I understand this bot is not for indexing.

So I guess my question is: If a site hasn't been spidered by Google in say 3 months after getting alot of links incl dmoz and yahoo what are the chances the site will ever be picked up?

PS - The only listing for the site is a supplemental result for the index page from April 2004 (I checked using the way back machine) before I owned the domain.

    Thanks!
    Frank

    You're most likely screwed!

The previous owner may have been penalized or banned.

(something to check for next time before you buy a domain name)

ugh...also forgot to mention that I did write Google and they assured me the site wasn't currently banned or penalized...but I'll admit I do appear to be screwed :)

The first think I'd like to know is how do you get into dmoz in a month? I've had sites that were never picked up by google. I did have a site that was in the index before and was offline for a number of months. When I started using the domain again, it came up as a PR4 and was indexed within a week. Another domain name I had which has been gone for about a year now, was online for over five years and was never, to my knowledge, picked up by google at all. I couldn't begin to explain it, but it does happen. Usually getting a link in yahoo and/or dmoz should do the trick, if not you might be sitting on a domain that google has banned for one reason or another. What was it before you bought it?

No, 'cos sandboxed sites are also crawled by Google. I think Rob's right. The domain must be banned, as it is unusual for a site to be listed in DMOZ and Yahoo and not be crawled even once in three months.

I suppose i should wait till after the next google dir pr update and if nothing changes use the .org version of the domain name (which I also own) and had listed in google in a day with 1 link...no content on the page just the standard yahoo domain placeholder page..will be a pain to change all the inbound
    links though

if it were truly banned would the supplemental result even show for the site: search? Also, would Google allow a banned domain to be listed in their directory? That has me confused
