5 anarchists nabbed in plot to blow up Ohio bridge

Court documents say three of the suspects are self-proclaimed anarchists who formed a small group and considered a series of plots over several months.

According to the complaint, the suspects initially planned to use smoke grenades to distract law enforcement so that they could topple financial institution signs atop high rise buildings in Cleveland. However, the plot later called for the use of C-4 explosives, authorities said. The final plan allegedly named the Route 82 Brecksville-Northfield High Level Bridge, which crosses from Brecksville to Sagamore Hills, as the target.

The five eventually obtained what they thought were explosives, but the materials were inert, provided by undercover operatives. The group was closely monitored the entire time by the FBI.

"The complaint in this case alleges that the defendants took specific and defined actions to further a terrorist plot," said U.S. Attorney Steven Dettelbach. "The defendants stand charged based not upon any words or beliefs they might espouse, but based upon their own plans and actions."

Elsewhere in the country, more "official" Occupy protests, sponsored by Big Labor and the Democratic party have been equally unsuccessful.

(Reuters) - Occupy Wall Street's call for a general strike to mark International Workers Day got off to a slow start on Tuesday, with sparse gatherings at a handful of spots around a rainy New York City.

At Bryant Park in midtown Manhattan, about 100 activists gathered where the group had promised a "pop-up encampment" emblematic of the movement's early days in lower Manhattan's Zuccotti Park near the Wall Street financial district.

I would just love to see some polling information on the popularity of the Occupy movement today in America. Amazing that the Democrats and a sitting President can survive politically while having direct ties to this group.

Envelopes containing suspicious powder were sent through the mail to at least seven locations in Manhattan, primarily Wells Fargo banks, police officials said.

"This is a reminder that you are not in control," said a message that arrived with the envelopes. "Just in case you needed some incentive to stop working we have a little surprise for you. Think fast you have seconds."

Police initially suggested the suspicious envelopes could have been mailed by militants from within the Occupy Wall Street movement, but a spokesman for Occupy Wall Street denied any connection to the mailings, saying the NYPD was making a false assumption.

Police had no suspects in the mailings, the AP reported.

Labor, immigration and Occupy Wall Street activists were planning public protests for "May Day," May 1, which also is known as international workers' day.

The police believed San Francisco-based Wells Fargo might have been targeted for white powder mailings because about half of a key dozen Occupy Wall Street members have backgrounds in Oakland, San Francisco and Berkeley, and similar incidents occurred in California earlier this week, police sources said.

With the Ohio bridge incident, it said the FBI had been monitoring them since last October. They were at an OWS event acting suspicious, saying they didn't believe in peaceful protest.

The group initially came under scrutiny by authorities in October 2011 when the FBI learned that some self-described anarchists planned to attend a protest in Cleveland, according to an FBI affidavit unsealed on Tuesday. An FBI informant saw four of the men going through the crowd expressing displeasure at demonstrators' unwillingness to engage in violent acts. The men wore masks and carried walkie-talkies, according to the affidavit...

...Baxter, Wright and Hayne considered different plots over several months, including distracting law enforcement with smoke grenades while trying to bring down financial institution signs in downtown Cleveland, federal authorities alleged. The defendants' finally settled on blowing up the bridge, authorities said.

"The individuals charged in this plot were intent on using violence to express their ideological views," Special Agent Stephen D. Anthony, who oversees the FBI's Cleveland division, said in a statement. "The Joint Terrorism Task Force will continue to be vigilant in its efforts to detect and disrupt any terrorism threat, domestic or international."

So it is now official. Articles covering the five charged in the terror plot to blow up the Ohio bridge originally made no mention of Occupy. They only covered the financial nature of their targets and the self proclaimed anarchist nature of the individuals. As suspected, these idiots are part of the Occupy Cleveland group.

What a lucky, lucky week this has been for Greater Cleveland -- especially for whichever unsuspecting souls were driving across the Ohio 82 bridge across the Cuyahoga Valley while five petty criminals associated with Occupy Cleveland were trying to community organize it.

The Occupiers, authorities tell us, thought they had rigged the span with plastic explosives that would detonate when they punched a code into a cellphone.
The only thing that went up in smoke, though, was their plot. They were working with dummy devices -- fitting -- sold to them by an FBI informant whom they failed to recognize as the Man.

Same here , but at least Charlie is some sort of a living legend while this guys are a waste of genetic material . It's funny that the idiots think that , it would only take a couple of millions to make this so called "wining" organization go away quietly . Petty they don't realize that .

I tried my best to get my hands on the video from the interview he gave to MSNBC, but no luck. MSNBC is a little more controlling of the licensing of their video, probably for fear the daily idiocy which airs will be used against democrats.
