Obtaining A License To use Artist Names In Products

    Hi,

I was planning on selling products online, such as t-shirts, with band names and band song titles on the products. I do realize there might be some issues, and that I'll need a license. How does one go about getting a license to sell these products from the band I'll be using?

    Thanks.

I'd try contacting the PR company representing that specific music label, such as Universal or Sony or whoever it might be.

Simply printing the band or artist's name on a tshirt won't be a problem as long as free speech still exists. You will need their permission if you plan on printing their logo though.

Well, any of their trademarks, not just logos. And it needs to be clear that it's not endorsed by the band.

As was said earlier, you will need to contact the PR department at the band's label.

Using a trademarked name for profit, with or without the logo, is not protected under free speech. The whole point of registering a trademark is so that no one else can profit from your name or business without your permission.
