    Directory submissions still seem to work very well for me. The others are on the decline.

    Who says these are old school techniques?

    I am practicing these techniques and they are giving me results.

    In fact blog commenting is very effective for SEO and promotion as well.

    You just need a good way to get results.

    they all have some impact and help a little. Even article writing can help a little but it's all got to be seen to be organic (ie a little an often and not loads in one hit)- you have to make it look like real world people are talking about your site online!

    What you mentioned still works, although there's a "SEO fashion" that claims all that is old and out of date. What definitely does not work is search engine submission and meta description/meta keywords keyword stuffing, those sort of things.
