I remember that. That was way irrelevant. Okay, I know some people cared one way or the other, but for most of the country....IMHO, who gave a rat's arse about that issue.

I hope Obama sticks to bigger issues. Meanwhile, I've read/heard how gun sales have been skyrocketing especially in the Southwest. It appears Gator's concern is based on widespread, or possibly regional, rumors or concerns that are rocketing thru part of the population.

The rumours haven't spread to this ole east coast boy. ;)

I think he will push for harder gun control, not sure about 100 days in though, and I sure as hell hope it's not his top priority since it is obviously not our top problem right now. I don't actually own an AK47 so I am not too awful scared about it but I would like the right to buy one anytime I feel the need :D I don't think anyone would successfully repeal the 2nd amendment or ban all handguns and rifles in the US ever, or at least until we all own laser eyeballs.

Repealing an amendment is a very arduous process and it isnt going to happen. The problem is when they start talking about "common sense restrictions" on the 2nd. The left has a view that common sense would dictate not allowing guns in the hands of anyone but military and police, so any limitation is permissible in their view.

The big downside, some legislators not only don't possess common sense, they dont even understand how the world really works.

Disarming your population is such a bad idea for so many reasons :(

I can't think of a single good reason why I shouldn't be allowed to own an AK.

I know a lot of people and news outlets have said, "economy". I've not heard anything about Gun Control. I would think his first priority would be to get familiarized with the Presidents Black Book and learn just what the realities are of the job he's gotten himself into.

I think there will be a rather large wake up call as it concerns the war, and other issues as well as the economy that are going to divert his attention away from his ultra left socialist agenda at least for a time.

Anyway, most Americans could give a crap about gun control, abortion or weather a gay person can get married or not legally. There are much bigger issues right now that supercede and social agenda.

I think those are big issues in the social arena... I guess it depends on how important social issues in general are to you. I agree though, if I was President my focus would not be to alter or change social things occuring the country, but to deal with Iraq and the economy. Afterall, thats what won him this election and I think he owes that to the people that got him in there.

I'm glad to hear that this is just speculation from a lot of gun owners who are nervous because of Obama's track record on the issue.

Not just his record... but that of the Democrats as a whole. With close to a filibuster-proof numeric advantage in the legislative branch + control of the executive branch, a history of being friendly with anti-gun groups, leadership in the house that has a long anti-gun history (Pelosi), Rahm Emmanuel coming in as Obama's Chief of staff (see "Clinton gun ban")... basically many don't think it requires a huge deductive leap to predict future actions based on past actions.

Guess we COULD assume they laid wide their true agenda for all to see during the campaign, but past actions are traditionally the best predictor of future behavior.

I know you're not dumb enough to be sarcastic on the first statement, I'm pretty sure you were on the second one though.

Nope. It's a surprise to many but I actually disagree whole heartedly with Obama on gun control. I believe I said as much in the thread where you asked why Obama is so great.

Watching CNN and FoxNews today, it looks like gun sales have surged 9+% since the election because so many people are afraid that the laws are going to tighten now under the new administration. I think the economy also plays a part in the rise as well. When the economy starts to go bad, there is always a slight increase in gun sales....

Firegirl, have you not yet learned that that there Fox News is BAD? Nothing you get from that channel could possibly have any credible journalistic integrity, much less be free from the corrupt grips of Rupert Murdoch himself.

    Bad, bad, very bad....

Along with the surge in guns sales, have you also noticed the massive and continual sell of in the stock market ahead of the Capital Gains hikes and other tax hike proposals that will no doubt be set in motion almost immediately with an executive order. Well, that is after other more important things are reversed, like stem cell research.

I know, I know. That's why I always mention CNN and Fox at the same time. Fox usually reports it first and when I come back from lunch, CNN will have the story running...gotta go....there's a sale goin' on fer 12 gauges......

Okay: I don't think he is touching guns....at least not early in his presidency...and certainly not first priority.

Now if he wants to do something trivial...here is one for the football fans where he can set an executive order for a college football playoff.

As far as a trivial first item...it is less controversial than Clinton's early "don't ask don't tell" for gays in the military.

It'd probably end up being great for Las Vegas and betting....and thereby solve the housing problem in Vegas....setting off a housing cleansing action that would solve this crisis. :D

I don't actually have a problem with gays serving in the military.[ I know, it's a shock, but people seldom fall neatly into pigeonholes, and I'm a people too.] Being gay isnt a contagious disease.

@Freethenoob - Faxes my ass... like your mom says... dont make me come up there. :-p I'll take it you would like to take me up on my bet... we'll have a few months to see which of us is right.
