What a bunch of BS. Always bring racism into a conversation... BORING.

I didn't vote for Obama. but I figure he is a puppet like every other person who has held the office, so I don't really have an axe to grind with him. I don't think a Nobel was in order though. Somebody is certainly kissin' some serious booty on this deal, wants to get favoritism from the U.S. for some reason.

This just devalues this already worn out concept of a "Peace" prize. Time to call it an Oscar and have a reality TV show to see who wins it next year.

This cartoon really says it all!

Obama's response to winning this prize has been a good example of why he won it in the first place. He has changed the tone coming out of the US from reactionary stupidity (George W. Bush and the rest of the Republican party) to thoughtful consideration.

Obama understands that this is an "aspirational" award and that what it really does is put even more pressure on him to change the world for the better.

    ---

HA! This one is great too: "Another Failure." Man, right wingers are just pathetic. No wonder they've lost a generation with their antics.

Obama wins coin toss. Decides to kick off rather than receive. GOP claims that will destroy the nation. Palin calls him a communist traitor

It would definitely weigh on his mind, I mean if i was just awarded a peace prize, i would think twice on raging war on anyone.

You know what? I don't hold Obama's political views, religion, or otherwise against him personally... however my question is what has he done so far that deserves a Nobel Peace Prize? I mean, if he actually DID SOMETHING it would be good, but he has yet to stamp down who he is in office. He has no characteristics or well defined operation in my eyes, and it takes a whole term to really know who someone is to be honest. To award him at the beginning is to award it to a vapid cloud of expectations, not to any substance.

Theodore Roosevelt got the Nobel for helping to end the Russo-Japanese war, something he pretty much did with a whole lot of diplomacy. What has Obama ended? We still have two wars, we still have an economic crisis, we still have the Adjustable Rate Mortgage's going as the next boot in the Real Estate freefall, and we had a clunkers program that worked, but was ended early.

The only thing that has worked so far is the clunkers program. That's it. We have no additional economic security, we have no lessening of the Bush era policies, we only have the EPA working toward getting back to the Clinton Years standards, and as much as I loathed Clinton - his administration was marked by at least... at least a balanced budget for many years, and a surplus.

Bush pissed it away, and Obama has done nothing to fix it worth a damn. I'm sorry to say, but if this trend holds out until 2012 he's going to be "Black Bush who helped the Gays" for me. He can speak better, he looks better in a suit, and he is slick... but at the same time I need substance. I would vote for Richard Simmons at this point, just because you know what he is about (weight loss and health being primary issues).

I think, in a broad sense, this country is having an identity crisis, and is in a way splitting apart - having forgotten on both sides the core values of what Americanism is, and what is actually right to do in terms of how the country was established. The Constitution gives us a basic guideline on how to govern, but less and less now do we rely on it.

So what we have is a neo-conservative side who ignores it while claiming to represent it, and a liberal socialist-lite side that says that it is pretty much out-dated, and the third biggest party (being really small in comparison to the other two) saying we need to get back to basics (Libertarians, that is).

Its like a building with the first phone lines and cable. It is clean and easy. But then someone gets Dish, and the lines are cut while new ones put in, and new owners then get Direct TV who does their own cable work, followed by Cable again that messes it all back up until you have a confusing array of wires and cables and you don't have a shitting clue where to plug your HD TV in because of 40 years of poor ramshackle work.

It needs to all be ripped out and brought back to the simple formula again. Just as our confusing networks of laws need an overhaul in all areas.

So, Obama won a prize for being a cloud of hope. I only hope that in our journey through the cloud we find something of substance, and don't just jet out the other side having no real changes and no progress in any form. America, your public is in decline in the mental health department, and it isn't going to get better any time soon.

    Rediculous.

    He in good company.

Arafat, Algore, and now the lefty golden calf Obama.

He has done nothing other than making this country less secure.

The Nobel peace prize is now unfortunately a joke.

I don't think Palin knows what communism is or who Marx and Engels are. Now that I think about it, this is also true about most of the red necks who call this guy or that guy a communist. ;)

That's the first thing that I thought.

I think it was a good move to give it to him because he now has to live up to it.

I think he got Nobel prize for his speeches about peace and not for his actions for peace, since there is no Nobel prize for good speeches, he got Nobel prize for peace.

At a stag party for men in politics, Obama wins a night with a hooker. Isn't really interested in it.

Puts it up for bid. The high bidder and winner is David Vitter from Louisiana. ;)

I'm not reading 75+ posts, but, I'd like to point out, that nominations for the Nobel Peace Prize were due no later than 2 weeks after he took office. WTF had he done then? Absolutely nothing. Really, what has he done to achieve international peace? Really nothing. Honestly, if he really wanted to achieve world peace the best thing for him to do would be drop the Israelis lol.

If the US stopped backing Israel, 75% of international conflicts would cease.

You and I are just as eligible and deserved of the prize. We've done pretty much the same as Obama with health care, GITMO, Gays, Iraq, Afghanistan, Energy, etc., etc...

You're ISRAEL comment is probably dead on. While true, it would no doubt mean the end of Israel as well. Damned if we do, damned if we don't.

I think that is a joke. Take a look through the mideast.

Gaza: Hamas brutally attacks the co-ruling party and drives them out, then slaughters a "more radical" group

Lebanon: How many decades of civil war starting in the 1970's....still in existance.

Al Queda: Wants to take out the Saudi ruling party let alone any non fundamentalist group.

Iraq: Shiites versus Sunni versus Kurds

Middle East: Sunni Arabs versus Shiite Iranians (btw: Iran was a silent partner in figting the Taliban and Al Queda in Afghanistan in 2001/2002)

India: Hindus versus Muslims and of course India versus Pakistan

Africa: Islamic muslims mass murdering non-Islamic natives in various parts of NE Africa.

All that stuff would be going on without Isreal.

Islamic radicals in Russia and China involved in various activities against existing governments.

China: Suppressing Tibetans and Islamic Muslims in Western China.

    etc. etc. etc.

I don't see where Israel has anything to do with any of those wars, mass murders, fights for power, tribal/religeous battles.

The middle east has used Israel as a scapegoat for decades as it engages in all sorts of tribal/religeous conflict.

That is not the part of the world where peace and love reign supreme.

In fact, the biggest winner of a Nobel Peace Prize would be some scientist/engineer who figures how to remove all the oil reserves in the middle east and spread them out around the rest of the world.

Then the rest of the world wouldn't care $0.02 cents about all the intercine warfare going on in that part of the world. That whole part of the world would be poor, uneducated, struggling, with non-productive economies, and minimalist rights for anyone but angry young men. (excepting India and points east).

Maybe they'd all kill one another, maybe not. Much of the rest of the world would be relieved not to have to bother with them anymore. I'm sure many productive people, such as the enormous population that migrated out of Lebanon, would happily move elsewhere to get away from the terror.

And when the dust settled in that part of the world....then 75% of warfare around the world would probably be curtailed.

    Just my $0.02
