Barack Obama said that as president he would spend $210 billion to create jobs in construction and environmental industries http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080213/ap_on_el_pr/obama;_ylt=AginjCOvaO9pbwGTGmXVTaKtOrgF
Obama is a person who has new vision, and young person. Who can take bold steps which other leaders of USA cann't do.
210 billion can be easily found, don't forget that Obama wants to withdraw troops from Iraq. The savings with such a withdrawal can easily found 210 billion.
Spending $210 billion on actually creating something sounds like a better idea than spending that same money in Iraq destroying lives (ours and theirs.)
I don't entirely disagree, because it's better to borrow for capital, than to borrow for consumption. Capital investment is self liquidating debt. But as a conservative, I have a hard time wrapping my mind around the idea of growing your way out of a problem, rather than cutting your way out of a problem. I'm a big advocate of the free market, and the ability of individuals to provide for themselves, rather than being dependent on the state for jobs and publicly beneficial works.
"Environmental industries", wait does that mean that 210 billion is likely going towards trying to fix a problem that the government itself creates? You know what that makes a lot of sense
I think a lot of the projects that Obama is proposing is building my roads and bridges. We need more mass transit and less oil consumption.
We can take some of the subsidies we give to big oil and use it for this too. The infrastructure definitely needs to be updated in the US. Another weird thought I've been pondering lately is to have a conservation corp type program for illegals to help and after so many x number of years they can become legal.
Perhaps he wants to invest in the NAFTA Super Highway, which some people still claim (ignorantly) is a myth.
Seriously? Realize that if we didn't have the war, that money wouldn't go anywhere else. Know why? It doesn't exist.
Hasn't the US allowed Mexican trucks with Mexican drivers onto US highways? I wonder what kind of insurance the trucks have.
