I couldnt beleive my eyes when i switched on the TV to see that obama has decided to close Guantanamo bay. I mean what is the point in having the bloody thing if Bin Laden has not even been found yet !

Anyway he isnt going to close it yet...... after 1 year.
Well I bet US residents will see a cut in taxes did you ever think about the extra tax money it costs US residents to keep that place open.
And was it really worth it ?? !

First of all, the fact that he is closing it is news to you? They've been talking about it for a while. Second, the main purpose of the prison was not just for Osama Bin Laden, it was for prisoners of the United States, and there are currently others being held there. Also, I don't think any Americans expect tax cuts because of this closing- we spend so much on other things that this is nothing compared to it.

if obama plan to close the guantanamo bay prison, is not about the money.
the place is where human rights are being abuses, where people being prison without trial, tortures.

I'm a liberal dem and an Obama supporter but I personally am undecided about this still.

Sure the place is technically illegal, and it violates those prisoners being held without trial or under any law. Some of these people were snatched up in raids or on "suspicion".

But at the same time, if you let these folks go, any one or number of them could go home and turn right around and participate in an attack against the U.S. interests abroad or here on our soil. So we're in a situation where we could be letting go of people who could potentially (rather highly likely) turn around and kill Americans.

Bush really screwed us with this one. It's a lose lose situation. One of a few he left us holding the bag on. It should have never been opened in the first place. The bad ones can rot in a cell forever for all I care but there are bound to be innocent people in there. This was just plain handled badly.

But eh, we're just post-bush-catastrophe quarterbacking now.

The US does not extend Geneva Conventions protection to "unlawful combatants" and terrorists. Further, the US has not ratified The Protocol Additional to the Geneva Conventions of 12 August 1949, and relating to the Protection of Victims of International Armed Conflicts (Protocol 1)

The US should put all the captured terrorists on one of the uninhabitated Aleutian Islands :D

i don't really care if they buried alive the captured terrorists, but what happen if some poor taxi driver got busted because he look like an arabs and the police think that he is a terrorist, and decided to put him in jail without being trial with no informations to his family?

    Ok.

No problem if they can actually PROVE the fact that the people there are connected to terror plots , but I mean for gods sakes half of the poor guys there have neverhad a decent hearing that proved they were in any way connected with what they were taken there for ! !

When I first heard Obama was closing Gitmo, I thought it was just window dressing since the CIA has a bunch of secret prisons. But the executive order clearly demands ALL the secret prisons to be closed. Wow, Obama has actually surprised me. This is the first great thing that he has done as president..........now what is the catch?

No catch, Tesla...this is why they brought him in. It is a recurrent cycle of recurrence and resistance. The contests amongst the Secret Masters have yielded this result.

Think of it like a football coin toss...there is an advantage in kicking first, if you know that you can come back stronger. The two factions (represented by the major parties) are in the late phases of a game that ends in 2012.

They kicked first, and let the Dark Side have its way so as to be best positioned for the two-minute warning.

Obama is for real. There are good people in high places, too. He has to juggle loyalties, so he does not always mean what he says.

But he is cut from the Kennedy cloth and may Goddess preserve him.
