With unemployment hovering at 9.6 per cent, creation of more jobs for Americans tops Obama's agenda in India.

20 deals have been signed between the US and India worth $10 billion and these are expected to create over 50,000 jobs in the US. The deals range from gas and steam turbine engines to oil and gas equipments.

Aviation giant Boeing has got an order for thirty three 737s from Indian carrier Spice Jet. The deal is pegged at $2.7 billion and is likely to add 12,000 US jobs. The company has also reached preliminary agreement on the sale of C-17 engines. That transaction is valued at more than $4 billion and is likely to support 22,000 jobs.

Global engineering firm, General Electric is likely to get the contract for 100 engines to power India's indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA). The $800 million deal will lead to 44, 000 jobs in the US.

Interesting article Helvetti. Obama is striking "deals". I have to wonder what the nature of these "deals" are. After all, a deal usually involves the exchange something for something else. If it is just the exchange of money for US produced goods, does that make the President a salesman for Boeing and General Electric, perhaps the single largest corporate donor and producer of propaganda for his election? If he is actually negotiating in his role as a US trade policy maker, what is India getting out of the "deal". Expansion to the H1B program? Continued protectionism for the products of non-Obama supporters? We will probably not know the answers to these questions for several years to come, but I thought this Obama quote was pretty telling:

In other words, if you don't agree with outsourcing of American jobs to India, and flooding the US with cheap Indian labor, you are a racist. What a low life scumbag.

What we are probably (will know in next few days) getting is access to Dual-use technology, permanent membership of NSG and other non-proliferation lobbies, support for permanent seat at UNSC and much more in exchange of Americans getting some jobs.

Its $10 billion in just the first few hours, it is expected that a single deal worth $30billion for fighter jets would go Lokheed martin, so will several deals for military communication equipment during the next few days. Be a little grateful.

And in you party spokespersons words: No 'Indian plot' to steal American jobs: McCain

I guess we will have to wait and see what washes out. Excuse my cynicism, but Obama has proven himself to be a full fledged minion of his corporate handlers here in the US, why would he be any different overseas?

Wasn't it Obama who said, "You think they'd be thanking me" for all his legislation to date which is anathema to the majority of US citizens? If hes a corporate sales person, its the most expensive sales call ever. If he is genuinely negotiating trade policy, I'd absolutely love to see the entire contents of the deal. So far, the man has not pushed a single piece of legislation that is good for the American people.

    Two points on that:
    1) I've never said there was some "Indian plot". India leaders should be doing what is India's best interest. That is right and proper. The people selling us out come from our own camp.
    2) McCain is definitely not my party's spokesperson. He's a career politician of mediocre intelligence that is emblematic of the misguided path Republicans have gone down. He doesn't appear to be corrupt, and hes certainly a patriot, but I would never want him as my leader(no I didnt vote for him in 2008).

As a professional ball buster I must point out that 50k jobs will be only 0.0125% of the total number of people unemployed . Considering the fact that the US is loosing billions to India I'd say that this is one of the worst possible "deals" he could make .

As the owner of two private companies, I do not believe that I would want some wet behind the ears politician negotiating deals for me.

That's exactly what I'm trying to understand. Lifting restrictions on dual use technology is no big deal, India did have access to it prior to the nuclear tests it did in 1998. If I were the Indian Prime Minister, I'd be trying to persuade Obama to stop funding and arming Pakistan. Its been two years since 26/11, and the leader of the Lashkar e Tayyeba roams free in Pakistan, addressing public rallies calling for Jehad against India.

Was watching Obama's speech in the Indian parliament today, could figure out easily when he looked into the teleprompter. His eyes would pause on it longer when he had to pronounce an Indian name or greeting. Said all the right thinks to please the hosts, but that's him - gives people hope until people realize he's hopeless.

Most apparent answer is that he's thrown US backing into a bid to put India on the UN Security Council. For India's sake I'd hope they held out for something more than just that, the UN is a semi-toothless anachronism.

Maybe India isn't getting anything out of it. The jobs and contracts came for free, just like Obamacare.

So Obama is no longer in India, and the final number appears to still be $10 billion. Obviously nobody negotiates $10billion dollars of private contracts in a few hours, making this look like yet another stupid Obama publicity stunt. The man loves telling stories to make himself look good. Boeing and GE probably worked on these contracts for months prior to his visit, and the Obama admin requested he be allowed to announce the contracts for political purposes, making him neither salesman toady or foreign policy negotiator. Reality is, he's just vacationing and politicing on taxpayer dollars.

Did anyone catch the new report out that shows the Obama Admin doctored the incident reports on the gulf oil spill to make it appear industry experts recommended a moratorium on drilling? I'm not sure Axelrod and Obama have any credibility left in the tank for 2012. Maybe we can have California vote for the entire rest of the nation so he still has a shot.

Check out Obama's new PR video from West Wing Week, showcasing his 10-day Asia trip. Was posted on Facebook by whoever runs Obama's account there:
