On the other hand... Hillary's approval rating is increasing while Palin is generally acknowledged to be a complete twit by the vast majority of America.
As long as a Presidential incumbent has a 50% approval in Gallup, he's pretty much set. Obama has yet to fall below 50% on Gallup for even a single day. But obviously we're a far ways off from November 2012.
Why? M-I-C, "See you next week..." K-E-Y, "Why, because we love you..." M-O-U-S-E Mia, I hadn't noticed that you were a moderator these days. Until/unless I see that then I will consider your thread policing to be...well, off topic
I wouldn't consider Sarah Palin's abysmal favorable ratings to be off topic considering that many think she may end up being the GOP nominee in 2012. If Palin were to become the Republican nominee then it's probably safe to assume that Obama's Gallup approval rating could fall as low as 40% without worrying too much about the general election because Palin is simply unthinkable as President to so many Americans.
Republicans aren't stupid. All the rhetoric aside there is no way in hell she (Palin) will win the party nomination in 2012. Behind closed doors they laugh at her just as heartily as we do. Worst case scenario they will push for her come in a close second to make it look good.
Some Liberals carry threads off-topic because they know they have already lost the topic of discussion (avoidance). Some Conservatives carry threads off-topic because they think the off-topic discussion is PART of the topic (A.D.D.). All the while, Moderates like me like to sit back and laugh...
I agree that their establishment does not want her as the nominee --- but at this point I'm not sure if the establishment really has control over the whack jobs that make up the base of the Republican party. I think there could be a real splintering in 2012... At least I hope this is what happens I want Palin to run and to be successful because I think it puts the Republican party in a really awkward position. It's their fault for creating the monster in the first place (by selecting such an obviously unqualified person as McCain's VP) and I hope it bites them in the ass again (it already bit them in 2008.) HA! Moderate?! HA! And I've been the most on topic person in this thread. I've been updating with Obama's current approval rating and of course his approval rating is the topic of this thread. Today it's at 52% (down 1 point from yesterday.)
But you've been posting inaccurate information with absolutely no source. On topic or not, its just as lame.
What about the whack jobs that make up the base of the Democratic party? Wow. WOW! Putting "party" before Democracy???? You REALLY HATE Democracy, don't you, Zibby? I've always suspected that of you, but I never, ever expected you to post something that makes your hatred of democracy so blatantly obvious.
As was once pointed out by Mia, we don't live in a democracy. It is a representative republic. I will concede your point about both major parties, however (and a number of minor parties to boot). Plenty of wingnuts to go around. You have to admit though, Palin is a real standout amongst the group. Perhaps a Palin/Sanford ticket for the Republicans (only because Arnold can't run). That should satisfy the family value, commitment, work ethic, independent thought group in America's heartland, don't you think? Mom and apple pie.
Um, my source is http://www.GALLUP.com You can check it for yourself. It's been the standard for Presidential approval ratings for about 70 years now. Reality. Look into it. It's the right wingers that have proven they hate democracy with the lack of respect they show for our democratically elected President. What did I say that shows I have a hatred of democracy? I want President Obama to win a second term and I think Sarah Palin would be very easy for him to beat, so yes, I would like her to be the GOP nominee. Why does that mean I have a hatred for democracy? What kind of nonsense is that?
True. A Republic is a form of government. Democracy is a blueprint for government. Palin is not a standout. She holds no office and has zero influence on policy. She is a lightning rod for those on the left that are seething with hatred and are intolerant of anyone that thinks differently than them. These people dehumanize anyone that they feel is a threat, right? That's why people like you, that bash Palin, completely reject the principles of true Liberalism. And THAT is why today's liberals have rejected Liberalism's original nobility - and have instead turned liberalism into a launchpad of cruelty and hatred. I think that a wingnut is anyone that blindly votes for a single political party rather than treat the candidates as individuals. In our present system of government, it's historically true that we need two strong political parties. Any time one party holds too much power, corruption ensues. And anyone that roots for the failure of one political party is a total wingnut and an enemy of Democracy. And a tool. Actually, when I worked for the local Democratic party in the 1980's, we had a name for people that blindly voted Democratic and coldly spewed hatred at Republicans - "useful idiots" (look it up). willy, do you think any of this applies to you?
Sarah Palin is a egotistical lackey, well used by her party of choice, individually inept, and an embarrassment for the collective right. "They are also building schools for the Afghan children so that there is hope and opportunity in our neighboring country of Afghanistan." - Sarah Palin (Yeah, that's right across the border from Kansas, isn't it?) "I'm the mayor, I can do whatever I want until the courts tell me I can't." - Sarah Palin (But aren't there laws, rules and standards, Sarah?) "It may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: 'Sit down and shut up,' but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out." - Sarah Palin (But, this is your "quitter's speach", Sarah - you know, the one explaining why you are giving up your Governorship mid-term????) "...how are we going to kick in the plan that will get this economy back on the right track and really shore up the strategies that we need over in Iraq and Iran to win these wars?" (Uh ,Sarah, we haven't gone to war with Iran...yet.) "...I don't know what the future of our country would be in terms of First Amendment rights and our ability to ask questions without fear of attacks by the mainstream media." (Sarah, the 1st Amendment protects the mainstream media. You got this backasswards dear...") ""How sad that Washington and the media will never understand; it's about country. And though it's honorable for countless others to leave their positions for a higher calling and without finishing a term, of course we know by now, for some reason a different standard applies for the decisions I make." - Sarah Palin (Yeah, Nixon quit his term early too) FWIW, I am registered as "independent" and with historical regularity have voted a mixed ballot. I would actually see a multi-party system. Repub's and Dem's are, in the end, too much alike.
In what way are you like an independent? So far your views are pretty far left of center, so maybe you have something that in center or right sided??? Maybe?
Is that a rhetorical question? If I were to say that I support State's rights, would that be right wing? What if I said I support State's rights to regulate the use of marijuana? Does that make me left wing? If I were to say I support individual rights to protection from government intrusion, would that be right wing? What if I said I support individual rights to abortion or sexual preferences? Would that be left wing? Where is the right, left and center as you define them? Are those definitions logically consistent?
The one thing I love about the far left is whenever they are cornered on facts, reality or common sense they always say "I'm independent", or "I'm a Progressive", or worse... "I'm a Libertarian". Fact of the matter is, a Liberal is a Liberal. A spades a spade. No matter what label they try to affix to justify their draconian beliefs and failed philosophy, its still just as left as left can be. For that matter, I've never met someone left of center that was independent at anything. They never think for themselves, they like to be told what to believe and are fairly complacent when it comes to drinking kool-aid.
@willy, Thank You for proving my ALL my points SO PERFECTLY!!! BTW, sorry for staying on topic, but Rasmussen has Obama's approval rating at 44% today! And to Mia - what a Wonderful Post!
