Define affordable healthcare? Also define accessible....those are two words that conflict with Obama's current plan...

Define affordable life insurance? Define affordable auto insurance? Define affordable liability insurance. Should the government also be covering insurances like this which most American's do not like to, or may not be able to afford to pay as well?

Of all the insurances I carry, I would say my health care coverage ranks above my auto in terms of expense, but when I look at the other insurances I carry, its not that bad.

Why can't we just look at the root of the problem. Tort reform, fraud, and backroom deals with drug companies by members of congress? Why not fix the problems associated with the COST, rather than throwing more money WE DO NOT HAVE at the problem...

That is all we are asking.

Perhaps there are some Democrats that are about entitlement. Nancy Pelosi comes to mind. But this isn't about that. The entitlement argument simply doesn't apply here and frankly is absurd.

I need to explain something as clearly as I possibly can. In a Democratic environment where we all vote and want our voices heard we pay taxes and those taxes are spent to benefit our nation as a whole. When you pay taxes it is no longer your money it belongs to our nation as a whole. Make no mistake, no matter how hard you try, you will not be able to get the government to only spend your tax dollars on you.... That is literally what you would like to see isn't it?

Such a type of government does not exist because there is no way it ever could. Sorry...

Yes, we all know how you have dumped everything Democrat into this one sided view of hand outs and entitlement, and grouped everyone in it.
We are aware. You have made it perfectly clear that you visualize everyone who votes Democrat as lazy.

You obviously think that everyone who votes Democrat is poor. I guess there is no way that anyone that makes a good living, or is wealthy could be Democrat since they don't need a hand out. Right?

    Pelosi = entitlement and power
    Here constituents are dependents

Nope sorry... What we are moving towards is socialism, which no voice is heard, either democratic or representative. What's I would like to see is a move back to a more conservative standpoint where I keep more of my money and I spend it where I think it should be spent. What I want is government to get the fuck out of my way and let me produce. I like many others am the reason people who choose not to contribute are able to survive lavishly. This includes people like Pelosi, fyi.

When Americans run the economy, we all win. When government runs it, we all lose. Let me keep more of my own money and I will spend it. I'll hire more people, I'll buy more goods, and I will produce more taxable income for all.

Why on earth none of you can understand how simple economics functions in a market based economy escapes all reason. I've worked on both sides of the isle. For someone, and for myself. I've worn both shoes, and can say with complete confidence that the US is only successful when government gets the fuck out of Americans way and lets Americans produce and consume.

    Exactly.

There is absolutely no substitute for running your own business. And, if you are going to talk about corporations, there is absolutely no substitute for working for a large corporation. Large corporations are EXACTLY like large extended families, some are mean and dysfunctional, and some are very compassionate and extremely loving.

I've worked for four Fortune 500 corporations, each with 3000+ employees. One of the most valuable experiences I've had in my life is sitting down and calculating the price of a product based upon acceptable margin, SG&A, etc (sorry for citing Wikipedia, but I agree with that simple Wiki reference).

The most VALUABLE experience I've had is calculating a product segment's acceptable margin. It's an exercise in staring reality right in the face.

So, when I see some of the things politicians are proposing today, I cringe knowing that they are completely ignorant about many things they are legislating. I read somewhere that, since the 1950's, at any given time at least 2/3rds of Congress have never paid a phone bill, calculated the cost of goods and services, or met a payroll. And of those 2/3rds, a disproportional number are Democrats.

This is why President Obama lacks experience is damaging. Even if you were to give him credit for trying to be a good man that wants to do the right thing, he's clueless about the things he's legislating because HE NEVER RAN A BUSINESS OR WORKED FOR A LARGE CORPORATION!

And if you never ran a business or lack any business experience whatsoever, then Socialism - in theory - looks warm and compassionate. But Socialism in practice creates an ideal environment for the mean and dysfunctional to prey on the innocent.

    Really ?
We are trying desperately to come out of a recession that was triggered by "Americans running the economy" without Gov interference and regulation where greed and creative investing and financing collapsed the mortgage industry and financial sectors.
Investors actually hedging bets on the failure of certain investments without actually buying the stock, and brokers selling paper they knew was on shaking ground. That was Americans running the economy, and they screwed us, for their own personal gain.

How did we just win ?

    Yes, really.. ;)

As to your other off base comments.. CRA, Carter, Clinton, Fannie, Freddie.. Need I go on? You're going to blame me and the other small businesses that make up 85% of the tax base collected in this country for that mess? Either you have been living under a rock for that last 30 years, or have rocks in your head.

Who said I was blaming you ? I'm nowhere close to blaming you. How come we always have to go back 30 years to Carter, and back 14 years to Clinton ?

I'm talking about the rampant greed and destructive financial behavior of some, that was allowed to go on unregulated, that put us in this mess. That was American's running the economy, and they ran it into the ground.
    That was my point.
Every time we give the fox the key to the hen house, the rest of us get stuck with the yolks.
I would be all for deregulation, and the Gov being hands off, if so many people weren't so greedy and selfish, and keep finding ways to rip people off.

You ain't the only small Business on the forum dude. There are many of us. You act like you're alone and everyone is attacking you. This has nothing to do with you personally, so stop acting like it does.

Well because thats the history of it all...

Fannie, Freddie were mentioned as well, were they not? I'd say its a nice time line of the obvious, starting from 30 years, to 14 years, to last year...

    Just watching the news MSNBC:
"60% of people on Medicare and Veterans services rate it a 9 out of 10 (our existing Gov run Health care) , however, only 40% of people surveyed rate their private insurers a 9 out of 10"

Americans are so "F"in stupid and quick to bitch, that most of them don't even know what they are fighting against. On the one hand, they rate the current Government Heath Care Highly, while fighting against it. And others aren't happy with their current private insurance providers, but don't want anything to change.

-Medicare is bankrupt, it costs more than its budget and baby boomers have yet to even hit it hard.

-More doctors are refusing to accept Medicare because they're tired of trying to make up their losses through charging private insurances.

Do you really think our government can $manage$ a Medicare type coverage for everyone when they can't $manage$ Medicare? They're taking loans to support it and we're already spending $500 million in interest per day in due to loans from everything our overgrown government does. Where will the money come from? Will it come from stopping the war? Yeah, Obama is well on his way to getting all our troops home, that's for sure ROFL.

So, call the people against it stupid all you want, but I have hope people with a level head will see both sides of this. The side that is worried about the costs and our country spending money it doesn't have.

Just to try and stay on topic, here's the latest approval rating graph ;)

Look. We have 2 choices..do nothing and let the train continue run wild down the tracks, or do something. Something costs money. Plain and Simple. We can't have it both ways. You can't want things to change, and continue to bitch about how much it costs. I have never in my life as an American heard so many people whining about what we can't do.

We fought a superpower to gain independence to start this country.
We fought 3 superpowers on 3 different fronts in WWII in the air, land and sea, and everyone in the nation pitched in to get it done.
We have the best technology, military, universities, research, medicine, economy (most of the time), entertainment, and most everything else in all the world. We are the envy of many nations and their citizens so much so that people have been either flooding the borders for over 200 years to be a part of it, or hate us because they can't.

We have come back from a complete depression to fight a world war.
We have discovered some of the most life saving technologies on the planet.
..and now all of a sudden, all I hear from Americans is a whiny "We can't do this. It's too much. I don't want to pay for it. What about me. Waaa...Waaa...Waaa !"

I'm getting sick of it. Americans have been bitching about Health Care for 50 fricken years, and now someone wants to do something about it...exactly what he said he was going to do when you elected him, and all I hear is complaining about it. No solutions. Just bitching about the price.

Every time there is a news story about some poor mother with cancer and 3 kids that can't get surgery, everyone cries "Aw..that's a shame". Every week millions of people watch Extreme Home Make Over and cry because some family is having a hard time and can't afford a life...most times..almost every fricken time, they have hit hard times because of something medical that they couldn't afford, someone in the family has special needs and no insurance, or someone dies with no protection, that bankrupts them....and everyone cries and cheers when they get their new house. Yeah, it's all happy days as long as ABC and SEARS is footing the bill, but these are OUR citizens. Our neighbors.

Well you know what, sh*t costs money!

You want your medical records more accessible and digitized ? It costs money !
You want a fall back for insurance if you lose your job? It costs money !
You want something affordable to offer your employees that's going to put more profit in your pocket ? It costs money !
You want your parents to be able to afford ALL of their prescriptions ? It costs money !
You want to NOT be turned down for a life saving procedure ? It costs money!

Everyone loves the Gov when they ain't got nothin' and need help... Flood, Fire, Civil Disturbance, Military Protection, Research, Grants, Student Loans, Disability..but God forbid the Gov should call on you to get something done for ALL of us, and all of a sudden everyone has something better to do.

    We have 2 choices:

    1. Let the train run wild and out of control and bury our heads in the sand like it's not happening.
    2. Do something to stop it.

    PICK ONE !

I will choose what I've been choosing which is to do something. Do something to bring costs down and address the problem with pre-existing conditions.

This starts with things like tort reform and many other ideas people are bringing up across the nation some of which are mentioned in my other thread about alternatives to Obamacare: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1461419

Just because we are worried about the government trying to apply Medicare to everyone when Medicare is bankrupt doesn't mean we want to ignore the problems health insurance has.

Great breakdown... one easy question for you: Where would the money come from to do this? More loans from China?

I never said it was going to be easy. It's not. And it's not going to all be covered at once in one big bill. It will take tweaking over years to get it just right, but, we didn't have the money to invade Iraq and no one bitched about that, and we didn't even find a cap gun. (and that meter runs by the minute) What happened to all that cheap oil that was supposed to be the benefit of us being "liberators"? If anything they stuck it to us even harder and reaped record profits. More than any other companies in the history of the World. That ended up costing us money on 2 fronts. Taxes, and $4 a gallon gas. That was a waste of money. This is not.

I have to let them do what they do in Washington. At least now Congress is actually paying attention to cost and not just signing off on crap like they normally do so if they actually start working together and stop just fighting based on GP, they may be forced to actually do something good here, no matter how much they resist it.

We are only looking for money for the final 1/3. 2/3's of the money has been found by cutting waste in other areas. It costs us much more money to bounce back from the savings and loans collapse of the 80's. Much more. And we got that done.

I'll give you change. Just give me the army/navy/air force/marines/coast guard/Canadian mounties and a few trillion from the treasury.

It begins and ends with tort reform. Something neither party will breach because the USA's lax legal system allows baseless medical lawsuits.

I'm looking up the name, but there used to be a clinic here in Boston that specialized in difficult births. These were situations where the mother had been told by their local hospital that there would be excessive complications in delivering their baby and so the hospital would not attempt a successful birth; instead, it was to be a stillborn procedure.

This clinic in Boston specialized in these births. Despite the difficulty, and with no guarantees, these mothers flew to Boston because they wanted to take a chance to have their baby delivered. 60 Minutes did a special on them seven years ago and this clinic boasted a 33% success rate. Think about that - your physician tells you it's impossible to deliver your baby alive, and this clinic agrees to try to deliver the baby - but makes no guarantees.

It was rewarding work for the dedicated doctors and nurses that worked at that clinic that successfully delivered 33% of babies that would otherwise not be born and they were forced to close because they were sued out of existence by predatory malpractice lawyers who represented the other 66%.

This is all I can think about when it comes to this health care debate, because the present medical system rewards lawyers by punishing heroic medicine (think John Edwards).

This is all I can think about when it comes to this health care debate.

Is it really necessary to modify the Health care policy? If it is for the sake of the people and the country as a whole, they should approve it fast.
