    I don't think there's any downside.

There's site called way2sms.com operating successfully in India. It's free SMS site with over 10 million users (as of April 2010)

Encourage not to use numberic domain name unless it well known domain name or it include as keywords .
Number in the middle of your domain will spoilt your domain keywords and it's hard for people to remember the number in your domain name.
The best is stay away from it and focus in using own brand name or keywords in the domain name.

I think that it is not a good idea to use numbers in place of words in this case. It typically looks very much like spam. And can get very confusing for people, especially pronouncing it. Just my opinion.

I think it is fine, even more so after googles last update as it is now frowning on EMDs so the content is I important not the domain name.

Most domains with numbers in the middle are second-rate. But some of the better ones can sell. In my experience, domains with numbers in the middle seldom sell for more than $xxx. Last week I watched one of my domains, California4Rent.com, sell for a disappointing $50 with only 1 bid. I would have expected a bit more based on the fact that California has a bigger population than 22 other states combined. But perhaps the holidays had something to do with it. In any case, I own many city + "4rent" domains. The majority of offers that I receive are mid $xx (from domainers) to mid $xxx (from end users).

Google does not frown on exact-match domains. For websites that have multiple indicators of authority, Google continues to consider the exact-match domain a factor. The change, as I understand it, is that Google discards this factor for websites lacking other signs of authority. Their goal was to downgrade spammy sites that relied exclusively on the domain in order to rank. If these same sites provided better content and had a better link profile, I expect that their domain would then give them the same advantage they previously enjoyed.

In any case, Google's algorithm is NOT the source of a domain name's value. Even if Google paid no attention to the domain at all, quality domains would continue to have value.
