First of all, the domain itself is worth the attention.
Secondly, this is a custom coded website, PHP/MySQL driven with a HEAVY LOAD of AJAX

Users can go to the site and compete against each others trying the find the numbers with the least number of trials.

The process is asynchronous, users do not have to reload anything. The site will check the given guesses and give hints using ajax.
It will also keep fetching the statistics every 15 secs, to let the users see how others are doing and who has already guessed the numbers.

The game has different levels each with a different difficulty level.

Multiple checks are done such as making sure all information was provided by the user, the input matches the level requirement, etc. Also, whenever a user guesses the number behind a level, he cannot resubmit the same number (even under a different name).

There is a simple panel as well for the admin in order to be able to reset any of the 5 levels, giving a new challenge whenever he judges that current level has been guessed by many.

The site has also its very own commenting system, also using ajax, which allows the user to give his comments, without having to lose the number guessing he is doing at the top. Also, in order to see what others are typing in the comments without him having to stop the game and refresh, new comments are checked every half a minute and displayed.

how can we promote such site? the layout is quite *ugly* (it's not an offence), just a suggestion.

 

Well, regarding promoting, keep in mind the domain is memorable, this will help quite a bit. Some link building with math, puzzles and web games in general could be very relevant and bring targeted traffic. It wouldn't hurt as well to have a small ppc campaign at start in order to bring in targetted users who can very well turn into return players.
Remember, each level can be reset, giving a new challenge every time. This is not just 'guess it once and the site is useless then'.

Regarding layout, I made it serious and dull on purpose, to give the image of a 'numbers' site. I may tweak the layout a bit, I'll see what can be done.
