Number of other directories on same IP

    Hi Folks:

The other day there was a discussion on this forum about getting links from directories on the same IP address.

I know it's not yet proven whether links from directories on the same IP address are good or bad (but why be sorry later when you can be cautious now). I usually avoid submitting to directories when 10s of them share the same IP. But it was not always easy for me to detect this. To solve this issue I have put IP address and number of other directories sharing the IP address in my free directory list and submission tracking tool.

I have IP address and details of more than 1500 directories now and I am working to get details for the rest. Maximum number of directories that I have seen on single IP is 274. I hope they are not interlinking to each other because that would make them more or less useless.

My directory list is in my SIG and you can sort it using IP address or number of directories on same IP. (remember I am still working to get details for many directories).

I have seen that directory list. I like the layout and it's frequently updated. However, I am trying to just post more and more data about each directory so that people can submit to 'best' free directories without wasting too much time. Some might argue that all this makes sense for paid directories and 'anything' is fine for what you are getting for free :)

Great list, but there are 1209 directories which IP is 0.0.0.0

One of this dirs is mine, so I can't see the real count of dirs on my IP. Can you fix this?

That's a nice feature jitendraag. :) 274 directories on one IP is just too funny.

What kind of host will allow 274 domains in one server? Dedicated hosting?

I guess shared hosting would also allow 274 domains in one server. BTW, the count is 282 now. :) I don't really know if I have all the directories on that network in my list.

Breaking News: All those 282 same IP directories belong to iEntry! :D They have purchased a lot more directories, I am sure that IP count will go above 500... anyone wanna bet? ;)

If I am not mistaken jitendraag had already worked on removing iEntry directories from his list to make it a better resource. Either way, please don't keep us in suspense jitendraag! :)

There are quite a few directories run on host gator hosting packages. So there is a chance that some directories sharing the same ip are not really part of a network - just located on the same shared server.

well tbh I dunno if they should be removed as long as they arent interlinking I think the same IP factor means nothing

if you are on a shared account then its exactly the same
I think they are actually building the free sites for advertising revenue and promotional email lists

I saw about 3-4 dirs in that 282 dir list. iEntry have their own servers.. so I am 101% sure all 282+ dir will be of iEntry only. :D

Well, that would not surprise me. I have removed well over 100 iEntry directories from my list and still there are some I come across. Those will be removed as well as I find them. :)

Bill: you are right, I was planning to remove those directories from my list and then I thought I shouldn't. I will keep them in the list and let users choose whether they really want their websites submitted to these directories.

I might go for making their links nofollow soon.

As humm said.. these are indeed iEntry directories :) The second largest network has 144 directories, all of them are .info directories running on IndexScript. These guys must be spending a lot of time in approving websites (unless they are approving them automatically)
