Whats your thoughts on the number of links that should be built per month? Is social bookmarking, article submission, blog submission a method that will hurt the seo process?
There is a recommended limit for new sites that should be followed and that is 50 per month. But that is "one way" directory links, recriprocal links, etc. When it comes to social bookmarking, articles and blogs, there is no real limit. But when you mix and match all concepts, you can easly go to 250 without Google getting upset. Just make sure the link you put on the page is SEOed correctly.
My thought - the only "good" links are the links that are bringing sticky traffic... links were visitors are coming from other web sites to your, and stay and read the content you provide. Almost any "other" link - unless followed by visitor - will not bring any value at all. So - you can work with any traffic analyzer to see what links are giving you "sticky' traffic , and invest you time in creating more of them. Hope that helps. Uri
Sorry but I have to straight up disagree with your comment about other links not bringing any value at all. Search engine rankings are fueled primarily by backlinks. These backlinks are not judged by which ones send traffic and which ones don't. You won't get very good search engine rankings if you only focus on the ones that will bring the best direct traffic.
VERY POOR ADVISE especially the part where you say: "Almost any "other" link - unless followed by visitor - will not bring any value at all"
Thats just rumour, theres absolutely NO LIMIT to the amount of links you can build each month. So long as those links are genuine, or seen by search engines as genuine / natural People assume this because they have been penalised for building hundreds or even thousands of links quickly, but they take short cuts, eg use the same description, use submission companies that use the same description, so the links are not seen by search engines as a genuine vote
