Number of Blog Posts on Homepage?

    Hey everyone,

I'm sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find anything useful using the search so here goes..

How many blog posts on your blog homepage would be considered an ideal amount for SEO?

I've heard 4-5, others say 15-20. I personally hate it when there are large amounts of posts were you have to scroll a mile down. Currently I show 10 posts on my homepage and the longer posts use the "more" tag. Is this good enough for SEO purposes?

So what's considered the norm? Or is it more of a personal preference?

I'm not an authority on blogging or anything, but I would think more content would be better as long as its quality. If I am reading a blog in a subject that I am interesed in, I will scroll or sometimes even read the whole length of the page - or at least scroll throught the headings and read what interests me.

    3-4 is cool.
A bit more if the content isn't lengthy

This should be a function of your volume. I have about 8-10 long posts, plus a series of short "sugar rush" links that appear indented in between the longer posts. I publish too many times a day for 3-4 posts to be practical.

It all depends on the Blog.

One of my Blogs has 1 post only on the front page

Another has 7 and on another I have 15.

You need to decide what works for you.

You know that it depends on how frequent you write. Optionally, you can have something like a list of 10-20 Latest Entries on your sidebar.

In terms of SEO, you should also consider the number of outbound links to decide how many post to show up in the homw page.

i think 10 is good, the visitor will go trough all 10 posts, like reading only the headers of a newspaper, to make an idea of the blog

There is no exact number. But you need to check the number to maintain the quality of your partner sites. You can check the "Google ranking tips" article at googlelady.com/date/2005/11/22/page/2/ You can get an idea how the google PR system works.

Thanks for that link bnts, that's a very interesting article.

Right now 10 seems to be working for me, but I might try different numbers to see which works better.
