Has anyone noticed a drastic increase in the number of backlinks on Yahoo and Altavista? I got from 5000 to 12000 on Yahoo and from 2000 to 8000 on Altavista. This in just 2 days!!! I've never seen something similar. I'm using the coop but my weight hasn't even increased lately. Useless to say I would be curious to know what happens behind the scene in Google...
I saw a big increase on one of my company sites. This website has NO KNOWN Backlinks. That's right! This was one of the "Build it and ignore it" sites and only has site-wide links from one of our other company sites. The site from which the site-wide links are made has around 1,000 pages cached and Altavista has been reporting 900BLs to the other site (the one we have linked to). They suddenly went up from 100 odd. All of the 100 that were previously showing were from that same site. But, now, it's showting over 900 and rising. I think that ALtavista (and Yahoo) is now showing all BLs from all pages, with none of the site-wide links being filtered out. I don't really follow rankings of that site on any SE, so can't confirm if that has caused any change in rankings. Can anyone else confirm this?
Yahoo is now reporting 113,000 backlinks. Up from 29k two weeks ago. I agree, it seems they are showing all backlinks from site-wides without filtering. Rankings are not jumping proportionately though. like a 400% increase in reported backlinks is not corresponding to a similar increase in traffic from yahoo! I can confirm that much for you.
It doesn't seem my ranking has changed in Altavista nor in Yahoo...but this may be because they don't rely much on backlinks.... I wonder what would happen if the number of backlinks drastically raised in msn and google....eheh you can imagine...a complete mess in the serp
