i am unable to figure out that y backlinks get different i mean when i check the number of backlinks for my website in google it shows just 90 and when i check the same url in yahoo it shows 14,501. so why that ?
Google are a lot stricter with which backlinks they actually display as 'backlinks'. Use Yahoo, it's more accurate.
Yeah Google's backlinks are lagging and/or obfuscated. Yahoo's Site Explorer rocks for checking backlinks. The only thing I'd like is a way to only show backlinks from unique domains.
No specific URLs, Google just use a stricter system to display backlinks publicly. This doesn't mean those thousands of backlinks that show up in Yahoo are useless to your Google rankings though.
I think yahoo picks the links up faster also. I would not worry about how many links google shows just keep getting links and you will be fine.
Google is count only quality site in backlink whose page renk high but yahoo count all site in backlinks so that google backlinks few and yahoo backlinks much more.
but i have found some sites having no PR linking to my site on first page (when i checked the number of links on google) so how you can say that it just show sites with heigher PR. however at yahoo there are some sites that are linking to my web with PR 6 and PR 7
Google has always shown only a sample of the links coming into your site. These links are updated in the search results every 3 - 6 weeks. Even though google only shows a small sample, this does not mean that google doesn't count the other backlinks when displaying search results. Google updates its search result pages for standard searches continuously, and these search results take into account all links that google has found.... That's why it's different display of backlinks from these two SEs... If you want to know some of your backlinks you can login to your Google Webmasters Tools...
Google doesn't appear to index nofollow URLs, while Yahoo does. This is as stated in Wikipedia Also, the best display of backlinks for Google is in Webmaster Tools. Supposedly this prevents competitors from using the info to their advantage, between the various websites.
google just shows a random sample....my best links don't show when I use the link command in Google...

Google doesn't show all the backlinks. It might be to stop people figuring out their algorithms. If you sign up for Google Webmaster tools, then you get to see every backlink that Google knows about. But that's only for your own site. For other people's sites, Google will never let you see all the backlinks.
