Hi guys, just need to ask your advice, I am thinking of making a domain name with a number in the middle of it e.g happy2you.com

I've heard that search engines won't be that effective when you try to find sites likes these?

Does it really make a difference? Please help

No it does not, the search engines don't search for the name of the site so much as the content of the site. As far as I have been told...there are a lot of big name companies out there with numbers in their name, it all comes down to S.E.O. (search engine optimization)

topaffiliateprogram has a point.....it isn't as easy to remember and can get mistaken for another name such as happytobehere.com vs. happy2behere.com

You might be sending people to another site because they heard of the name and didn't understand that the 2 was in fact a 2......understand....it comes down again to advertising, and SEO....very important in marketing a name.

I have a site with a 2 in it and search engines have no difficulty finding it for the name of the company though I would advise you to buy the same domain name with "to" as well just to save any confusion by visitors trying to remember your domain name.

If you are lucky enough to find a site that you want containing the number and able to find that same site with the spelled out word such as 2 vs. to you should defilnitely invest into buying it both ways as nicnel suggested then just point one of the names to direct to the other.

My site is pretty easy to type in. I should offer people to bookmark so they don't have to retype it... that's a good idea.

I wouldnt do it, people may get confused about the URL or forget how it really is.

    So instead of putting.

    were2cool.com

    They do weretoocool.

Bad example but you get what I mean.

If your using keywords in your domain name the number will not have an effect. using numbers will also shorten the name. The shorter the better.

number in middle must not be an issue. 2 is also just another character...isn't it?

I think numbers make domains easier to remember.

Never used them, but actually remember more sites with numbers than with names.

I am even thinking of buying digital2point.com to redirect to these forums.

    Peace,

If the domain is short, then maybe. You'll end up with a brand rather than traffic from ses. Unless it's something like 666.com ofcourse.

The number wont make a difference in the SEO, but a general rule I like to follow is to be able to tell someone your domain name over the phone and not have to spell it for them. I always avoid words and characters like 4, for, you, u, 2, too, to etc. .... anything confusing that you would need to clarify.

You people are acting like a number is the difference between a lot and a little traffic. As SupremeURLs said, the number doesn't make a difference in SEO, a number can make a domain easier to remember, if branded correctly, and of course it makes the name shorter. Of course, you'll lose the people who can't reach slightly above then where they usually type.

I don't think SE's will be affected by the #2 in the domain. However, I have always stayed away from the #2 becuase it is easy to confuse 2 and to.
