    It is fairly easy to understand why this site doesn't rank well.

    Indifferently constructed meta tags;
    no long-phrase keywords;
    .info domain which is widely used by spammers;
    content which is non-specific and on barely related topics;
    what appear to be paid links;
    and
    it is only four months old.

    Google doesn't trust it.

    Considering that you are trying to sell it for $50,000 it should be worth a few more minutes of your time to correct these things.

    To get well ranked in google, you need to get some backlinks + add lot of content in your site. Do proper SEO and your site will rank good in google.

    My website is not perfect, but look at my competition, the number one search result for "vancouver computer" is called lotus-land, how is that related to computers I have no idea. After Four years online it has a Google PR of 2, my website received a Google PR of 2 after just 3 months.

    My website is updated every day, their website has not been updated in years, most of the computer stores they list have gone out of business by now.

    They have a forum that is 100% spam and their frontpage advertises titles like "download cracked xxx here".

    In Yahoo my competitor that has number one has a Flash website, 4 pages and 6 backlinks. I should be able to beat them handsdown according to any SEO handbook.

    This is one of the reasons that by now even in my own searches I have started to avoid clicking on many top search results, they are so focused on doing SEO that they don't actually deliver what I am looking for.

    My main handicaps in Google seem to be:
    -domain age
    -.info domain
    -more quality backlinks needed

    About the age there is nothing I can do.

    About .info I think that Google is making a big error if it is penalizing a whole domain because of a few bad apples. Nowdays .info and .com have almost the same price, often the difference is at the most $5 or $6 per year. I picked .info because .com was taken and because .info seemed to fit: information about computers in Vancouver. If I get a chance I will complain to W3C about Google's discrimination.

    If they discriminate they should tell us, I didn't know that they don't treat all domain names the same.

    -The only thing I can change are the backlinks and that is something I am working on. The problem is that many links providers are fair weather friends. When one of my pages was in the top 5 on google for a popular search, I started getting 20 natural backlinks a day. When I changed a few things and the rank changed to top 20, all those link disappeared quicker than they appeared.

    But I will be upgrading my website soon. I am planning on going with Joomla but I have hesitated because their seo support is not very good yet.

    Any suggestions about the upgrade?
    -Thanks guys.

    Google doesnt seem to like .info domains. I really struggled with some of my .info domains. Unless you have a non-competative keyword, which you havent, SEO is going to be expensive and hard.

    They have different algorithms and if you like to rank higher on google you sholud get backlinks related to your page contents or your niche. We all know that googles algorithm is better than yahoo. So making some SEO for google will increase your google ranking

    My issue is with Google. They seem to be still penalizing .info domains. One of my mirror sites, hosted in a free page website actually ranks higher than my main domain for some searches although there are no backlinks to it at all. That is just bad search methodology on Google's part.

    My main site: Vancouver Computers

    My mirror site: mirror for www.VancouverComputers.info

    You rank number 5 in google for allinanchor:Vancouver Computers. Try to improve your onpage optimization and seek out 1 or 2 high quality backlinks.

    I read somewhere that if you focus on SEO for Google, you will almost always get good rankings in Yahoo and MSN
    I have found this to be untrue
    Some of my sites rank better in Google than Yahoo and vice versa
    And MSN? Not sure what algorithms they use but I am ranking well for sites and keywords that I haven't done much SEO for
    Go figure

    Google is a better search engine, thus they require better backlinks and better quality.
