Number 1 in Yahoo - manually??

My site has now been live for over 12 months. I checked my serps every day for a couple of keywords and normally they fluctuate a little bit. About 6 months ago I jumped 20 position in Yahoo to number 1 for my keyword. Since then I have not seen any fluctuations.

Does anybody else have similar experiences and does this mean Yahoo selects top sites manually?

No they dont select no1 manually.

With everything being the same Yahoo has certain +points for age of domain but they have different slots like 100 days 200 days 1 year year and a half and so on unlike google which credits you on a daily basis so on yahoo you see a big change when your site reaches certain thresh hold.

I suggest you work hard now to keep your rank as the sites on rank 2 and 3 have a good chance to get the no1 spot when they touch the next bench mark for age or any other alog component any time soon.

No search engines can rank websites manually. Yahoo's rankings have become a bit more unpredictable lately from my experience. Yahoo rankings can fluctuate dramatically, but normally not with a short period of time. Google's fluctuations can be a lot more dramatic.

Fluctuations is very normal to all search engine they give different points to every elements they use in ranking a sites. I think google gives more importance to content but they also give some points to other elements like backlinks and etc.

I don't think they would select it manually, but I have to say: that's a pretty impressive jump. Did you change anything on your site in the time inbetween?

Yahoo can and does manually insert results in their serps.

That's Yahoo. Then one day they do an algo update and that #1 ranking is gone. They do not select sites manually.

Yahoo is unpredictable. But I don't believe they will select your website for top position manually. Be happy about your position :)

Yes they do. I'm sure it's not widespread but it does happen. Just like they list sites in their directory for free and without anyone requesting it.

Google does place more emphases on content, and making sure that the number of times keyword is around 6-8. Yahoo still places emphasis on keywords, keyword density, and relevant backlinks.

Yahoo really seems to have favorites.

There is one site I watch which has been number 1 for a HUGE term without any updates for 4 months (it almost looks like the site is abandoned).

My website has jumped from the 100s to top 10 just by changing a few keywords.

    Google, is another story.
