There is nothing I hate more thangetting those damn link trade request emails. However, today I got a nice one, I think this is the way people should ask for link trades. From: ***** Skateboards Date: 02/12/05 14:25:04 To: Subject: Quick question about your site Hi, I took a look at your site a couple of hours ago... and I want to tell you that I'd really love to trade links with you. I think your site has some really good stuff related to my site's topic of skateboards and would be a great resource for my visitors as it deals with some great aspects of skateboards that I'd like to give my visitors more information about. In fact, I went ahead and added your site to my Love Skateboards Resource Directory at http://www.******.com/bammargeraskateboards Is that OK with you? Can I ask a favor? Will you give me a link back on your site? I'd really appreciate you returning the favor. Thanks and feel free to drop me an email if you'd like to chat more about this. Best wishes, Trevor **** Skateboards P.S. If you'd like the description of your site modified or if you have any other cross-promotion ideas just drop me a line.//
Lol - i also got some mails exactly like the one above. The site in question was related to insurance. I also loved the part where the mail told me that: 1) he visited my site 2) his targeted insurance visitors would be interested in my puzzle games ( ?!!!????? ) 3) and the nice special favor he asks at the end which i didn't granted was a killer. after i told him that i won't link back he removed the link to my site. The link that he considered so beneficial for his users....... Here's my 2 cents: a link exchange request should contain: Hi I would like a link exchange with your site. My site is about ......... and does ....... My site details are as follows: ......... Please mail me you site's details. I mean we are all webmasters! We all know what link exchanges are for.... What's the use of writing a very long prefessional mail sent by an automatic script when i only need 3 things to make my decision ? Just my thoughts, don't get upset at me if i were to harsh.....
well... since my site is at least related to young people, I guess I was it as a more or less good request. But if I had an insurance company asking me for a link trade, I would sure tell them to go to hell
Actually i trade links with pretty much everybody (insurance included).... It doesn't seem to affect my rankings at all (actually it helps them)... Did you found any evidence thaat unrelated links hurt your rankings? - I now this is off topic....
No, no evidence, I have a link directory and I accept any kind of sites there. What pisses me off is that I have a big note on my site that says that if someone wants do exchange lniks they can go to my directory and put their url there, and they still insist on sending me a damn email with a link trade request.
Same problem here. But most of the requests come from people that use either link exchange directories or automated software... I can't really blame them i havea typizied e-mail that i send all oh them "Please go here and add your link...."
