    Well google ignores them completely...but there are a lot of crawlers that give much weight to that

    I couldn't find any mention of keywords meta tags being used by any search engines in that link. Meta description was mentioned (in my experience Yahoo! does look at it), but nothing about the keywords meta tag.

    Well i guess it just speculation....

    experimenting the concepts on my one seocontest entry started a week ago..including keyword metatags

    working fine for me.... have jumped serps to top 50

    like they say seo is not perfect, noone seems to win it all

    Yes, the meta description is one source of the snippet that google shows under your link (though it doesn't seem to be used in Google's ranking algorithm.
