I posted a similar post on the google forum. I have two sites linked together, loftgolf.net and loftgolf.org. I did a Yahoo search this afternoon and the .org site was in first place and I couldn't find the .net site anywhere! How could this happen. Please help me with this. Thank you!

I mentioned that in my posts. One was for google and one was for yahoo. I have the same problem with both search engines.
Very simple! My question is why would my .org site rank higher than my .net site? We started out developing the site on .org and then rolled over to .net but linking them together. Is the answer that the .org site was there first? If so, what do I have to do to get .net the best page rank?
nothing to be confused over you have duplicate sites, the search engines want to pick one you need to do a 301 permanent redirect
But why Google chose the ORG over the NET? Don't they want you making money since ORG are supposed to be for non-profit organizations?
usually the site that had the content first would have priority, and then maybe the oldest site.... google doesn't care about the profit/non-profit issue when it comes to indexing, why should they?
Yup, that sounded strange to me, but your words make sense and maybe that is why many people prefer aged domains in the aftermarket. Thanks for the clarification
Thank you very much for that info. I will contact my web designer and have that changed! You have all been a great help! Thank you, I love the people on this site
you need to do a 301 redirect, if you are using linux then add the rewrite code in your .htaccess file for the .org site note: your .org site will then disappear from the search engines, and only the .net will stay, you can't expect to keep both and not get some kind of duplicate content problem
yeah but be careful, maybe the reason is something else because google keeps on changing its algorithms and strategies. So if you have got the .org website on the top, why bother removing it and taking chance whether the .net would attain the same position. Just my opinion. Best of luck
Thank you, everyone, for your valuable input! I will be taking your quality advise and making changes to the site today! You have been a great help and I truly appreciate it. Thank you.
Canam has already given you the answer - 301 redirect. Get the changes made and then move on to making your site even better
Just a question, I know this issue is resolved and all... But how the hell is .org non-profit?! .org = Organization. So all organizations are now magically non-profit. Sorry Microsoft, no income for you this year...
