Now I Went and Done it... .shtml help needed

    You know the saying, "If it's not broke, don't fix it?" Ok, here's what I did. My main coop site was running perfectly. All htm pages.

    Then I thought that by changing my main directory to .shtml pages and adding "Includes" as a header and footer were going to make my life easier, and it has, but now the ads won't show.

    I still have 3 directories inside of the "main directory" that are still .htm
    Is this a No No?

    I followed all the instructions per se, I was under the impression that I could just add one line to my footer, and the ads would run.

    The one liner didn't work. So I added the .php code with it and that didn't work. So then I took out the one liner, and left the php code and that didn't work. So then I just took them out of the footer and inserted the php code on the page and that didn't work. And then added the one liner to the page and that didn't work.

    So.... now what...

    Change all my pages to .shtml? (Another days work)

    Am I missing something here? or ? All Professionals welcome :)

    Okay, I been working on this and just realized that my ad code that I'm inserting is ad_network_190 My htm pages still have ad_network_187 on them. Let me change them all and I'll see if that does it.

    Well, instead of changing the ads to 190, I reuploaded the 183's php and txt(not 187's) and I'll see if that will work. Instead of changing all the ads in all the directories, to 190 ads, I'm just going to add the 183's back to the main directory's pages, and then see if the ads will show, (but I'm not putting them in the footer, just on the pages.)

    So if anybody has a better idea, let me know, because I'm going to start doing this right now.

    I found a thread that says she created a .shtml_ads.php and then called it with a <!--#include virtual="/shtml-ads.php"-->

    So did she put this on every page or include it in the footer?

    After reading so many threads it appears to be a technical nightmare. So I went and uploaded the old .htm files and the site is exactly as it was two hours ago. But... the ads aren't showing. If my ads would have been showing then I would have happily deleted this thread.

    So if someone could go check or revalidate my site, I would sure appreciate it.

    Okay lesson learned. "Leave well enough alone."

    Gosh, nobody has showed up or offered any advice or help???? Where's all the eager professionals?

    My husband was right I guess, the co op is just a passing trend.

    My site is too huge to be going back and changing the ads all the time. I'm removing all the ads this time. :(

    Oh, I was just gonna check it out and make comment, but there are no ads on your site now...

    I was gonna say to check the paths in your includes as I had trouble with paths to includes on one of my sites; I had them all as /coop.php but found they worked better as relative the the page with ../coop.php and ../../coop.php etc... but there's no point now :rolleyes: ;) :D

    Yeah, too late. Thanks anyway. I actually found an easy way to remove the ads.

    I went to Dreamweaver and went the EDIT dropdown menu and clicked "Replace" Changed the current document to "folder" and browsed to the folder.

    Changed "text" to "HTML source". Pasted the whole co op code in the text box next to it.

    Clicked "FIND ALL" and it found every single one of the "seven hundred and four" ads. Then left the "replace" empty, clicked the REPLACE button and it deleted them all.

    Now if I would have realized this sooner, (that I could use this tool to do this,) then I could have just replaced the old code with the new code. But... oh well.

    Maybe this will help someone else to avoid alot of copying and pasting or deleting. :)

    That'll be the "global find and replace" then ;)

    If you sort the ads out again, at least there's the possibility of doing the same F&R to put the ads back in...that is if all your pages are built the same/a similar way... :)

    Stick at it, Carol K. then sit back and watch... the results are good for even a little bit of weight :D

    I know, Lever, and I appreciate your input. Some day (when I have the time) I may put the ads up again. I just don't feel up to it now, all this has just been too stressful. My site is just TOO HUGE. The co op probably works better for smaller sites.

    If I just wouldn't have messed with it... it would still be up and running.

    Another problem I have is that I made the mistake of changing my URL in my coop cp
    for some reason I thought it would help? But it's a bigger mess than ever. I changed it from "www.newenglandsite.com" to "www.newenglandsite.com/ "

    Then it was trying to validate "www.newenglandsite.com/ " so that is probably why the ads wouldn't show up. But I went back into the account and changed it back to "www.newenglandsite.com and clicked submit, but it is still looking for the site with the slash. : ( So... as I said this is too stressfull for me and I am clueless as to how to fix it.

    "You decide whether you offer space site-wide (all pages within yourdomain.com and subfolders) or limited to just a folder (all pages within yourdomain.com/folder/subfolder/ and deeper subfolders). This domain is called your 'Base URL' and this is the URL that you sign up with."

    This paragraph is on the New FAQ site. Does this mean I can sign up a folder inside of my base url? Such as "www.newenglandsite.com/sheltonct/ " and then just put ads in the sheltonct folder?

    -------------------------------------------------------------

    # You can only have one account per domain! This means you can not sign up again with a subdomain or a subfolder as your Base-URL.
    # You need one account for each domain! After signing up your second/third/fourth/etc. website in new accounts you can consolidate (see Ad Management) all into one Master account for ease of inventory management.

    I do not have ad running. It is my understanding you can put on just one subfolder.

    Ok, now I'm reading in the FAQ section on "Setup For .html/.htm Files Without A Footer File" and I think I'm beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel.

    If I can get this to work without having to copy and paste all the code on 400 pages again, a happy person I would be. :)

    Well, since we got 7 inches of snow today I decided to put the ads back up. The above post did not help. So I used the Dreamweaver "replace" method, and inserted the code, I grabbed the " /body and /html " and put "replace" with this, so the ads would be above the /body and centered.

    <p><center>
    <?php
    ini_set ("include_path", ini_get ("include_path") . ':../:../../:../../../:../../../../');
    include ('ad_network_193.php');
    echo $ad_network[0];
    ?> *
    <?php
    ini_set ("include_path", ini_get ("include_path") . ':../:../../:../../../:../../../../');
    include ('ad_network_193.php');
    echo $ad_network[1];
    ?> *
    <?php
    ini_set ("include_path", ini_get ("include_path") . ':../:../../:../../../:../../../../');
    include ('ad_network_193.php');
    echo $ad_network[2];
    ?> *
    <?php
    ini_set ("include_path", ini_get ("include_path") . ':../:../../:../../../:../../../../');
    include ('ad_network_193.php');
    echo $ad_network[3];
    ?> *
    <?php
    ini_set ("include_path", ini_get ("include_path") . ':../:../../:../../../:../../../../');
    include ('ad_network_193.php');
    echo $ad_network[4];
    ?></center></p>
    </body>
    </html>

    then I uploaded all the pages, but the ads are not showing.

    And my control panal says this

    Ads not found on http://www.newenglandsite.com/

    Logout | Setup Instructions | Edit Account Settings

    Account not not yet activated. | Site failed automatic validation as of 2005-03-12 (make sure URL and site type is correct - if everything is correct, make a request in the forum for assistance). Validate/Calculate Weight Now

    So, what has happened? The account is not activated? Should it activate automaticly?
    My URL is www.newenglandsite.com not www.newenglandsite.com/ does this make a difference?

    Will someone help me please, I already read the new FAQ

    Well, I see the txt file is starting to have ads added to it, does this mean I need to wait awhile? Till more ads are in the txt file? Then the site will have ads and validate?

    I hope so, this would be great.

    You are not totally talking to yourself but I have no answers for you. Do know it takes a little time to you to store the ads to be shown. The fact that you are connecting and getting ads is a step forward.

    Onward.

    Thanks Smyrl, I appreciate the encouragement. I'll wait awhile, but I thought someone had to go in and activate the account personally. And why it is not already activated I do not know. I've had the account for a month.

    It should just be a matter of revalidation

    It's 4:30pm and here's what has happened the last 6 hrs. I used the Dreamweaver "Replace" and it didn't work. It did insert the code as I requested but it inserted it without any spaces, and there was little squares for breaks.

    Now I wouldn't have known this but I opened a file in WS_FTP and saw it. Any files that I opened in Dreamweaver, it straighened out as it should be.

    I went to Google and did the site: search and checked my pages. The only one that had the ads was my php recipe script. None of the .htm pages had ads.

    So, for the last six hours I went in and copy and pasted the correct spaced out code in all 503 pages. Sure am glad that's done, and I hope I won't have to do it again!

    Carol, you may need to go in and start a thread with title validation help needed and reference this thread. Obviously the right people are not reading this thread. I am of the opinion if all goes well you can validate your own site using the control panel.

    By any chance did you set site up some place as www *.mysite.com and later reference it as www *.mysite.com/ That may make a diifference.
