I've had it last year, it lasted about 8 day. I couldn't move, not even reach for a glass of water when it was worst (after about 5 days). No fun. But then, one day you will wake up and everything will be ok.
i jus had some normal fever recently for couple of days, this one is definately more dangerous, take good care and all possible precautions.
They could save your life, I guess. I must say I found the advice about blood thinners interesting since it is probably one of the first things a person would reach for in such circumstances - painkillers. As for moving to the DR - if it was me, I would get every shot known to man and would live in a plastic bubble when I got there just for good measure.
Well, I did learn about the dengue fever while there and then researched more when I realized I had it. So I don't do this completely blind. I would almost bet I already know more about dengue than 99% of my local doctors would, not that they couldn't look it up either, it just isn't something most have probably ever had to deal with here. One of the problems with "health care" is that so many think the doctor is the only answer and don't take personal responsibility before or after an illness or disease. Like overweight people going to the doctor instead of eating less. (I know, some can't help it.... whatever..) We don't think for ourselves, we let the doctor do it for us. The things they give you know or tell you about your illness will change over the years - some for the better. Doctors are not taught much on managing health, but are educated in diagnosing an illness and then prescribing a current medication for some of those symptoms of the illness.
Last year in Tamarindo Costa Rica, about half of the gringos there had dengue around the same time. The place looked like night of the living dead. When I had it, or just got over it, I must have looked horrible too, cause when I revisited 3 months later everyone said how good I looked.
