It all depends on your personal needs, etc.

On Yahoo Publisher Network vs. Google AdSense, currently you get better targeted ads with AdSense, because they have a lot more advertisers. But Yahoo is paying more per click, according to most people.

For the publisher - Go Adsense or YPN, and then also get non-contextual text ads from RevenuePilot,SearchFeed etc. I would also show CPM banner ads from Casale Media/Tribal Fusion etc.

I also have pages on the sites which allow people to buy things (CPA), which are just Amazon links (I know Amazon don't pay much, but the API allows you to get a ton of products).

You should try to keep your website from looking too cluttered, but there is no reason not to combine several rev streams.

In terms of buying traffic, it really comes down to testing. If you are new to it, I would stick with major engines like Yahoo, MSN, and Google and test. Every offer is different - it is strange how a keyword can be a top producer on one engine, and a dog on another.

Thats what nice about PPC - I dont have to guess, I just have to test and follow the money.

    ^ yes. Adsense/Adwords are top,
    - most relevant ads
    - most advertisers
    - generally the highest cpc

YPN is good (but currently US only and difficult to get into), but all traffic needs to be targetted to us only, so you always would need a partner program (maybe even adsense) to show ads to the rest of the world.

Then its pretty much everyone else, alternativeurl.com, adbrite, bidvertiser, clicksor etc

I like Clicksor myself, but I don't have experience with all of them.

Everyone has different requirements based on what country they are in, niche, traffic etc..

My recommendation would be to test a few networks over a good period of time and see what works for you.
