Notifications Not Working?

Discussion in 'Support & Feedback' started by sayyes, Nov 27, 2005.

    Hi,

I don't know when, but I recently stopped receiving email notifications when someone adds a post to a thread I have subscribed to. I have checked and I believe my settings are all set up to receive the emails. I have threads in my list of subscribed threads (and those threads have changed and I have not received a notification).

I probably did something stupid...but I'm too stupid to figure out what it was!

    Help!

    Thanks.

Did you check if your mail server/client is trapping them as "spam"?

Since the upgrade to 3.5, I miss a few (not a lot) of notifications and on a regular (but not frequent - maybe 1-2 times per day) I get double notifications for the same threads (and the same post in that thread).

Hmmm... if you check the HTTP headers can you make sure the email ID is different for each one? That way can at least see if it's truly sending more than one out and not a mail server replicating them for some reason in transit.

OK - I've just been deleting the extras. Next time I'll compare the headers before I do that.

Okay. It just happened again, timestamp from my SMTP is one minute apart - same post quoted and referenced:

FYI, my problem has been resolved and is not related to minstrel's.

Turns out the inbox of the email account that was forwarding my notifications was full. So, I cleared it out and now have the notifications go directly to gmail.

Okay... I'm going to keep my eye on it. Is anyone else seeing this happen for them?

Can't find the previous thread where I reported getting duplicate email notifications, intermittently, about watched thread updates. This is continuing, possibly even increasing.

Just now I received THREE notifications for the same post.

    FYI.

Are you sure you guys aren't getting a notification again when you are supposed to get one?

For example if someone responds to a thread you would get a notification. Then if you go to/browse anything in the forum (even if you didn't read the thread in question) and someone posts another response, you will get another notification. The only difference in the email would be the part that shows the username of who just replied.

New post notifications are based on the last time you were in the forum as a whole, not the last time you viewed the thread. So if you are in the forum and there is an active thread, you could get a lot of notifications pretty quick.

I'm sure that that isn't what's happening to me. With the most recent example, I was making lunch and got back to three notifications in a row about the same thread in my inbox - I hadn't been anywhere near the computerlet alone that thread... and again the quoted post was the same identical post in all three emails, not three different posts to that thread.

Three emails exactly like this one:

Hmmm... to be honest I really don't know. I've checked everything on this end and it all seems normal. Also, I've never received a duplicate notification so it makes it hard to debug.

On my forum, I have the same thing happening. Last week the notifications didn't work, this morning they did and now they don't. it's been like that ever since a short time after we've upgraded and everything seems to be installed right on the server (time for me to bug the guys at vbulletin.com forums again).

Since someone brought this up, I havn't received one email notification since I've joined, about 10 days ago. I've been subscribed to many threads. I just figured I was doing something wrong. I probably am.:D

there's been a bug with vbulletin's notification system for quite some time (i think ever since 3.5.0 came up)

it should be fixed in the latest version of 3.5.2 (you'll need to redownload it and reupdate it)

my next one on my board is coming on the 19th (tommorow). i tested it by running it manually and it worked (got a shitload of emails)...we'll see if it works automatically too.
