Yeah I have been noticing drop in back links for some of my sites but their pr hasn't affected by link drop
My guess is that you are just seeing this in the "link:" query. As far as I know, Google doesn't really "Drop" backlinks from its index. However, the sample that it reports has been known the change periodically. I wouldn't be too concerned about it. Best, Sam
I have the same experience.. some from directory and blog comments i think this is because they use noFollow atribut on external links
Google does not shows exact amount of back links for your websites. Better to check in webmaster tools.
Actually links degrade over time and ultimately can be lost. This is why a proper temporal link building program is necessary. Don't play all your cards at once. It is much better to have a steady stream comming in. Google's temporal ranking factors look at; the following is part of a Google Patent (to give you an idea how they look at things.... So, a link is not simply a link... there are temporal factors that can come into play as far as how they are treated. Now as pages get de-indexed, stuck in supplemental hell, pages being taken down/modified by webmasters and so on can come into play. We also can see that the valuation of some links will also change over time as well. All links are not equal.... ...some things to think about....
I have been constantly adding backlinks so I have not noticed a drop in my backlinks. I'm not sure if a drop in backlinks is a cause for concern it all depends on whether or not your rankings are the same in the serp?
